The Cheese Thread

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Expat Jack, Jul 12, 2020.

  1. Well, we have a coffee thread, a tea thread (sadly undersubscribed) and of course a whiskey thread.

But I don’t think we have a place where we can share our collective knowledge on the king of dairy produce.

What’s your fave? What’s the most unusual? What tickles your palette?

I love a strong cheddar (of course) but am also partial to a nice Red Windsor or Cornish Yarg. Plus a good runny Brie (French or Somerset, pref the former).

I also love a Dairylee triangle.

What you got!? And what with (pickled onions best obvs)?

  8. Love cheese, we are fortunate there’s a little shop in the village that’s dedicated to the stuff.
Even before lockdown restrictions you had to queue to get in.

  9. I also like toast, but that’s for another thread!

  10. Picon Bejes-Tresviso from Cantabria, northern Spain, is probably the finest blue cheese I have ever tasted. Andy

  11. Roquefort on crackers, on steak, stuffed into mushrooms, melted into mash or baked potatoes, with chicken, in anything with a tomato sauce, on pasta - epecially gnochi-, on crusty bread. Or just big lumps on a fork.

Brie, Camenbert, Emental, Gruyere, Cheddar, smoked (processed weird one) Boursin, Primula (original & flavoured), Port Salut, Cheshire, Scottish orange cheese, La Vache qui rit, Feta, Edam & Old Amsterdam (melt it on fried eggs) Cottage. You can usually find most of the above in my fridge, though you'd have to know the combination.

Right now theres only five, but the Tesco blokes are coming Tuesday -phew!
