1299 1299 Remapping

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by V4Missile, Jul 12, 2020.

  1. Well, just had my 15000 mile valve service, with a Rexxer remap done at my local (ish) in dependant dealer. New gold chain and sprox fitted too, went for 15/41 to make it a bit more usable at lower speeds. Together with the remap the bike is massively improved in 30 and 40 zones. I used to have to be in 2nd gear for 30 limits, and 3rd for 40 mph limits, and the bike would still cough and fart.
Although I don't run her this low, at one point just to test, I managed to go down to well below 40mph in 5TH, (JUST TO TEST, YOU KEYBOARD ASSASSINS!! ) No protesting from the engine, previously it would have stalled, maybe even in Fourth, at this slow speed. Dyno sheet to follow later. Dave

  2. Dyno sheet here, from my friends at DWR in Buckingham. Showboat figures are probably not only the increase from up from 180 to 194 horses at the wheel, with a consistent improvement from 7000 rpm, but it's easy to overlook how power just used to die around 10500. Although I'm not up there often, the new mapping gives me a little extra (25 horses!) til 11500, may be useful, where the power drop used to be quite fierce. I look forward to trying this at Donny on the 22nd. The crisp midrange helps float the front a little earlier. Apologies for the concentration here on the boring, low speed stuff, but this work has addressed the irritating bits I did not like about the lady in red! Other details adjusted, are fan cut in temp is lower, and quickshifter kill time reduced slightly.

  3. Nice stuff Dave, I had my 1199 remapped at BSD Performance for drivability and small throttle opening behaviour. Made a big difference and now much nicer to ride when on a trip. Didn't do any harm to track work either. Let us know how the 41T sprocket is. I was thinking about that for my next mod. Is the front sprocket still the standard size?

  4. Hi, BSD done a great job of my '04 ZX10r, he knows his stuff up there. Just a bit too far away, for me. Front sprocket is stock now. When at Snetterton recently, with the 200/60 tyre I used I was worried the tyre was too close to the exhaust, so put one tooth less on the front sprocket. This was to give me a little extra chain length and pull the wheel back. Also I got to try SIMILAR gearing (14/39) to the R models 15/41. PM me if you wanna use the nearly new 14 tooth one to try it out. Dave

  5. Cool, I'll let you know if I decide to give it a go :upyeah:

  6. I’ve been out tonight for the 2nd time tonight since having my 899 ECU flashed on the dyno and it’s made the world of difference and I’m enjoying the bike again now. I had it done for the same reasons you mentioned. We’d all like to think we can race around pinning it in full throttle everywhere but the reality is in towns and villages the bike was getting tiresome and now it just pulls along cleanly and a gear higher than before.

  7. Good power gains, it is interesting though that the 1299 seems to suffer like the 959 in making a specific torque figure at 4k revs, that it then doesn't recover until 7k revs, that's a big 'hole'. JHS Dyno'd a 959 and said that the throttle bodies are now so big that the air speed is just too slow at those RPMS, They then pulled up a dyno chart of a 999 that has something like 10mm smaller throttle bodies and it absolutely destroys the 959 power up to 8k rpm. It's all about top end but I wonder how many of us would take the option to have some of that old Ducati 'grunt' back.
