1000 Possible Issue With Immobiliser

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by duke4life, Jul 14, 2020.

  1. Hi all, first time poster. I have an issue with my 1000S which all of a sudden will not start. There is nothing on the electric start and the fuel pump is also not priming. There is a flash sequence on the immobiliser light but I am not sure what this is. I thought I would try the spare key which bizarrely triggers a different flash sequence. The first is a 1 second flash, followed by 3 fast flashes and then a single half second flash. The other key gives a 1 second flash followed by a 1 half second flash. Not sure what it did before to be honest but I am sure it wasn't this. Does anyone know what these sequences mean?

  3. My Multistrada had been getting steadily worse for weeks, it would start sometimes, others not, or catch, not start and then sometimes go dead etc... a maddening array of issues that eventually left me stranded 100 miles from home on a Sunday; I stopped for fuel, nice hot engine etc... absolutely refused to start. I phoned a Ducati factory trained pal of mine who diagnosed the problem and talked me through how to solve it.

Starter (ignition) relays can go on the blink and for some reason, the early Multistradas seemed to be a little prone to this issue. To check, swap it with the headlight relay (they're identical) and you should find the problem's cured. You need to reach up into the fairing by the fork leg (I think its the left one) to get to the relays, swap them over and within a few minutes, you'll know whether it is the fault with your bike
