Help With Engine Code And Part Numbers Please

  1. Afternoon all,

I’ve been having issues getting exhaust downpipes to fit my 750ss.
Upon inspection it seems when it was ‘modified’ by a previous owner they also swapped the engine out for a 900.
Therein lie my issues. I was buying for a 750 which my logbook and frame code said i had ‍♂️
Is there any way someone here could tell me what downpipes (both front and rear) I need to be hunting for for

  2. Write to Ducati on ducati.com and ask your question, they usually get back within a day. You need to have pictures of VIN number, engine number, logbook and your ID and they tell you exactly what you have and when it was made.

  3. Thanks for that, I shall give it a go.

  4. Not so sure mate, ZDM is Ducati no brainer 904A is 904cc air cooled 2V engines, next 2C is the year code the vin and engine code guru's will keep you right on this, possibly 2001 but I am often wrong! last 6 digits are the sequential build number 040210, so quite a few on from 000001 from 1993!

  5. Shazam lists the engine number as follows, "ZDM 904A2C 000001 means 904 = 904cc A = air-cooled, 2 = 2 valve, C = carburated," no age identifier but as suggested already the engine number is quite high even allowing for the various other bikes fitted with that engine. Its probably from a late M900

Part numbers for the MY91 to MY98 900SS and Superlights are listed as 57110071A Vertical and 57010071A for the Horizontal
Part numbers for the MY91 to MY97 750SS are listed as 57110151A vertical and 57010151A horizontal
Part numbers for the MY99 to MY01 900SS are listed as Manifold (vertical pipe) 57110381A and 57010381A horizontal

  6. Didn’t the sequential numbers on the 900 lump begin in 1990, and these were used in the 900SS and the M900 Monster from 1993?

My ‘93 M900 monsters both have engines numbered around #011750, and the ‘94 M900 I recently sold was around #015500, so that indicates #040210 as being quite a bit later.

Out of interest, does it have V2 or W markings on the heads?
