Knack To Caliper Removal Multistrada.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by MikeM93, Jul 30, 2020.

  1. Is there a knack to removing the front caliper on my multistrada? Taking bolts out and sliding caliper back on same plane as the disk just gets the calliper hitting the wheel.

  2. Yes there is a knack. You need to try and open the gap between the disc and the brake pad. I achieve this by pulling the caliper towards me. With the larger gap, the caliper can be rotated towards you as you remove it from the disc. The tolerances are very tight but it is achievable. I tend to put a micro fibre cloth over the caliper to protect the wheel. The reverse is easy because you can push the caliper pistons fully back. Andy

  3. And that's with the old pads in it how little room is it going to have with new pads . I don't see it getting back on if I get it off. Anyone else had this issue?

  4. Thanks Andy.

  5. Worked a treat. I was scared or scratching something as it was so tight. Microfibre cloth was a great tip

  6. Same with most bikes, real bugger if you have stuck pistons.

By the way, your hose connectors are a disgrace :p:D

  7. I know they are :( I clean it regularly. Used acf50 the lot. But it was a pre owned bike and most of it was before I got it.

  8. The calipers look well shiny so well done on that - much cleaner than mine - must get the Bilt stuff on Christmas list :D

  9. Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner. Andy

  10. this nearly always explains the odd, mysterious scratch marks to front wheel paint on previously owned bikes. Congratulations if you managed without. :upyeah:

  11. That's one done had to go buy copper grease. One I overcame the fear of putting a bit of power into twisting it off, the rest was simple enough. It even went back on easier than I thought. I did notice one caliper piston sticking a bit so cleaned them up thoroughly before putting pads in. After a quick search I found on here 45Nm torque so i went to Screwfix and picked up up a torque wrench. couldn't have done it without you all. One down..... Off to do an airport pickup and get the other tonight

  12. I know it's not a big job but now I know how to change my own pads .

Took 1.5h to do first one but 45 minutes to do second one now I know what im doing.... Kind of

I did have to open the fluid reservoir on handlebar and take a tiny bit of fluid out but I'm planning to replace fluids anyway.
