Paypal “pre Approved” Payments

  1. I came across something while checking my paypal security settings due to the recent spate of fraud related to track day bookings and thought it might be of interest to others.

Log into you account and go to the below page. Click to View automatic payments - you might be surprised as I was to find a list of “Pre Approved Payments” for things you thought were one off purchases.

  6. I think they are one off payments, or at least one off payments can be included in the list.

AFAIK these are payees or suppliers that have you go mthrough some type of registration on their site prior to purchase their goods or services. If you remove them from the list you have to repeat their process again if you use them again. It doesn't mean necessarially that they are regularly charging you a sum like a direct debit.

  8. Yeah I understand the purpose - I just wasn’t aware that this existed within paypal and was surprised to see trials I had cancelled a long time ago and other things that were never advertised as subscriptions and that I had thought were one off payments were still in there as active. Some as old as 2015.

I just don’t like the idea of them sitting there - not good security should the third party with preauthorised payment ever be compromised.
