Hi Guys, On the DTC faults which ignition coil is coil A and which is coil B? This is on a 2010 1198s Corse. I want to resistant test it but want to test the right one. Cheers, Scott
Okay, further question, i've just run a multimeter across the wires after disconnecting the coil. There are three wires, red, yellow and black. Using the '200' setting on ohms on the MM i get nothing showing when connecting the black to either other wire and i get the reading 1.1 when connecting the red and yellow wires. I thought i had read another post with the correct readings i should be getting but having re-read it I am not sure if they are right or not. Do you know what the correct readings should be?
The black may not be connected to anything internally but I would think it would be a ground connection if used. The measurement across the red and yellow sounds about right for a coil primary winding. What do you get reading from the spark plug terminal inside the end of the coil to either the red or yellow wires, I expect somewhere between 5KΩ and 10KΩ. That won't tell you if the insulation is breaking down internally though.
I've just found the service manual online and have found two things, the central black wire does go to ground and that the expected resistant is 650 mohm plus/minus 50mohms. As this is outside that range it would seem something is wrong, the service manual says if it is outside this range then it should be replaced. I am going to test the other one and see what readings I get from that coil. I havent removed the coil yet, just did the test in the wires by unclipping the end. I'll test the other one, compare the readings and then probably fully remove it and check it again including primary and secondary coils as well as check the spark plug.
