748 Tick Over Issue

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by SPW67, Aug 11, 2020.

  1. Hi, I have a 2000 748 which has a 853 conversion. Recently I have noticed that when cold the bike ticks overs quite happily around 1300rpm but when its warmed up and the tick over won't drop below 2000rpm. Could this just be issues with cable or TPS ... maybe fast idle ... any ideas guys ?

  2. Si, I know its probably not, but have you checked to see if your fast idle button is released?
You might have pressed it in accidentally.

  3. Hey mate, this was one of my thoughts ... I will double check but I let it warm up the other day blipping the throttle and noticed when it was cold the revs would drop down to 1300rpm but as soon as it started to warm up it would hesitate around the 2k mark but then drop down to the 1300rpm. When out for a ride and sitting at traffic lights, so well warmed up the revs wouldn't drop below 2k ... any ideas would be good mate.

  5. Maybe I can help :)

First check your fast idle, but two textbook symptoms of an intake leak are a high idle and “hanging revs.” If your bike suddenly starts idling higher for no particular reason, an air leak might be to blame. Good luck mate.

    cheers Nick

  6. Ahhh didn't think of an intake leak, as you say this could explain "hanging revs". Thanks for the tip, will investigate and see what I can find. Thanks very much :upyeah:

  7. one favourite that is likely is balance is out between throttle bodies which could include loose fixings in the brace between the two bodies. It's the sort of thing that heat, and particularly current heat might exaggerate. The brace and rigidity between the two is pretty poor as std. Have you had them balanced recently? Not advising you do it frequently but if you open throttle wide-ish while running high and let go of throttle completely does it make any difference to revs? also, when you do this with engine off do you get a clearly heard "clack" as butterflies close or is it silent?.

  12. Hi all ... Problem solved. Throttle bodies balance issue. Re-balanced, air bleeds reset and mixture leaned off very slightly. Now runs as it should do ... Now a happy chap. Thanks for all the great advice everyone, really appreciated.
