Hi, The Mrs monster has developed pulsing front brakes, the dealer picked it up at the annual service a few weeks back and said to keep any eye on it. 500 miles on they are worse. This is the fourth new ducati we have owned and the fourth one the front discs will be replaced on. Is there an issue with the quality of the OEM discs ducati uses or have we just been unlucky?
are you both covering the lever too much, causing slight contact in turn creating excessive heat and eventually distortion in disc ?
What year is the bike? I have just been told my 2 year old 1200s has warped discs and I am trying to get them changed under warranty.
Hi, not that I am aware of! Normally to busy hanging on to cover the brake! Very different riding styles but we tend to be on the spirited end of the riding spectrum so when we do brake we use them positively.
I've got a 14 multi... I bought it two years ago when it had 880 miles on it... The discs were showing signs of warping then ... By the time I twigged... the bike shop had closed the business.... I managed to get it to 7k... before they really had to go.... Got some serie oro's to fit when it gets cooler to work on the bike..... It's common knowledge the Brembo discs fitted are a poorer quantity than aftermarket Brembos. I've had many bikes including quite a few older ducati and never suffered warped discs before..... so I don't think it's me. Cheers Ger
I wouldn't replace the discs with Ducati parts from Ducati dealer..... I've heard they are quite expensive..... I took advice from ex Ducati dealer... now independent.... and on this site to go for Serie Oro Brembos.....
It has four years of warranty remaining so if the original ducati parts are fitted and warp again they will be replaced again, and again and again! The real bummer is we are on hols and my dealer is too busy until second week in September to fix it and my wife does not want to ride it as it is so our riding plans have gone out of the window. I am pretty upset having bought three new multis and this monster off them in the past seven years. They have previously been brilliant when there were problems but I guess nothing is the same these days.
I am really surprised and disappointed, I am still hoping they will realise I need help and come back to me, we shall see. I really don’t want to use another dealer but I have not got much option if we want to ride.
My dealer told me brake discs are not a warranty item, they are consumables. I asked him to ask Ducati anyway, just waiting for him to get back to me.
Buy some Brembos where you are, fit them, send the old ones back to dealer, carry on riding throughout your holiday, get home and apply for refund from your dealer for buying discs.
If fitting disc yourself, ensure you get a new set of fasteners, I have had these damaged on removal. And it is good policy to fit new bolts on new discs, this is the only connection between your disc and the wheel. Also tighten to the correct torque setting, good luck and hope you get it sorted.
If youre gonna go aftermarket....PFM all the way...thats the only disc ill ever buy now....got some on my RSV4 and theyre brilliant.
