Either It's Too Hot For Biking, Or I Need Some Better Summer Gear!

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by moto748, Aug 12, 2020.

  1. I just went out for an exploratory run on the 748 (only about 20 miles or so), thinking of a longer run, maybe to the coast, tomorrow, and it is dripping off me! I bought a cheapish OXford so-called summer jacket last year, It has all the vents and such-like, but inevitably my tee-shirt underneath is soaked in no time. Admittedly this was an ordinary cotton tee, I have some 'wicking' material tee shirts, but i didn't wear one today. I suspect the only short answer to this is going to be, spend more money, but are you guys keeping cool, and what are you wearing to do it?

    TIA.

  2. Tee shirt, shorts and flip flops, there’s your answer.

  4. Went out on my 996 this morning and lasted about 20 mins or so and went home, i had dainese jacket well vented, Rokker Rokkertec jeans, dainese summer boots and gloves, my opinion is your fucked no matter what you have on it's just hot, and getting stuck behind Muriel and frank doing 20mph to get cat food is not my idea of fun, i don't know, complain when it's hot complain it's to cold or fucking pissing down, just no pleasing some people!:scream::laughing::upyeah:

  9. Generally in this heat I wouldn’t even bother riding.

But I’d admit adopting the European style of jeans and T shirt probably if I had to.

I got heat stroke in leathers from this previously and was seriously ill.

    Just my opinion

  10. It's 32 here and I think that there is no solution. Next week is forecast to be a lot more cool and p1ssing with rain. Just one of those things

  11. I haven't actually done it yet, but have really considered riding in shorts cos its so hot.

I did have a spill riding in a tee shirt in my yoof, along with requisite hospital visit and a lift in one of those big white vans with flashy lights :D and that's why I have been resisting ..... so far. :(

  12. Typical U.K.

it’s either fucking miserable or so hot and humid you can’t sleep for weeks on end :joy:

  13. Don't do it!!, i had a friend of mine about 30 odd years ago(Dead now) on a RD 400, he was wearing trainers shorts and a t-shirt, he clipped a kerb on it(don't ask) and well without going into detail, skin grafts right leg, back and right arm, not pretty.

  15. I have a trackday tomorrow...going to be fun hanging about in leathers all day. I will try to change back into shorts between sessions but it will probably take me half an hour to peel my kit off!
Taking a gazebo as it is forecast either stinking hot or stinking hot with thunderstorms...lovely!

  16. The only way round it is very early in the morning or late afternoon / evening.

  17. I am trying to avoid riding Ducati’s, especially my Pani.
Avoid towns at all cost. Drink plenty of fluids. Go out early am.
Oh, full leathers. Very occasionally riding jeans.
Yesterday at Donny it was ridiculous. 33 degrees and simply walking was enough to exhaust me. I cut my day early after one aborted afternoon session as I could not concentrate, was going much slower, riding poor lines and feared a crash if I continued.

  18. For work this week morning ride is ok but coming back at 2:30 pm roasting, that's in a Knox mesh jacket too with just a T-shirt underneath.

I got rained on a little which was actually a relief, I ride because I must I won't venture out for pleasure.

On a side note all the way back I was looking forward to the last of my CocaCola, opened fridge door gone Daughter has consumed up made do with tap water:mad:

  20. Not been on a bike for two weeks, the mrs said "Don't know why you have bikes? You moan when it's to hot/cold/wet!"

I've no idea how the GP guys managed the other week 40c and ride those things! .
Mind you they are half my age and fit!
