  1. But be prepared to dismantle half the bike to get at the vertical cylinder valve covers. From memory I removed the tank, airbox, battery & tray, rear shock (so had to support rear of bike, ended up using my step ladder as an A frame over the back of the bike)

  2. Have been running my 900 SSie on 4 springs for at least the last ten years. Good enough to take one of my sons and me with all our kit to Luxembourg and back for a long weekend. The two springs are under the seat and with the open clutch cover I could fit them without needing to remove it.

If you think about it the clutch is the same as the super bikes use which churn out twice the power and torque as the SS. The only possible problem I see is vibration from being slightly out of balance. But if that happens I would just knock the opposite post of!

  3. I did think about knocking the opposite post off, but decided to try it first, knowing my luck I’d do even more damage.

  4. Bits arrived, so now have a working clutch again.

Forks next. That should be fun, wonder how tight Arnie has done the front end up o_O

  5. Hmmm, perhaps I won’t do the forks just yet. Forgotten that my front paddock stand was one of the things ruined when my shed roof went.

@Arquebus do you still have the stands for sale ?

  6. Don't you have any bricks

  7. I was going for the ‘look at me, being all posh’ angle.

Might have to resort to something though.

  8. Blue string from the garage rafters is always a favourite :D

  9. Flip the footrests over, put axle stands underneath them then tie the frame to the ceiling. You can then remove whatever you want. (This ones actually got a jack under a piece of wood under the engine).

  10. I think if I tried to support it from my shed roof I wouldn't have a roof. :D

  12. if you have a pair of stepladders use them as an A frame and hang the bike from them.

  13. Yeah, it would give you the opportunity to build a new and bigger shed :D, every cloud and all that.

  14. Or buy an Abbastand with adaptors for the SS. I bought one 20 years ago for exactly that purpose. I've used it on loads of bikes since and never regretted it, one of the most useful tools I've ever bought.

  15. Shed is plenty big enough, or it would be if it wasn't full of stuff.

Think I will have to give that a try. Good idea.

  16. I'd like one, but bit expensive for me.

  17. I don't think Derek meant the sky lift which is expensive, but the superbike stand which is much more reasonable and lifts from the frame.

  18. I did look at both, something to consider when / if work picks up I think. :)

  19. The Abba Superbike stand is £102.95 including adaptors for the SS, which I think is pretty reasonable.

  20. The ECU on my bike is a IAW15M.AO

purely for my interest (and perhaps, to me, a bit of fun) what diagnostic information can I get from it, and is it only something like rexxer (hope I got that right, and is that mapping only ?) that can be used ?

Hoping for software that can run on Linux, or if someone knows what the protocol is ?
