Dyno Setup At Steve Jordan Motorcycles

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by Sev, Aug 17, 2020.

  1. The superlight got her Dyno setup at steve Jordan Motorcycles and I went to pick it up today.

Nothing major, just slip on pipes, open filter and dynojet kit, and while he was there, do the valve clearances as well.
Steve is a real world dude, and doesn't chase horsepower, but chases a nice smooth curve.

On the road it feels really good, pulls really strongly in the middle and no hesitation, and I also have induction roar as well. Much broombah - roombah - boombah..

73.1hp at 6500rpm with max torque arriving at 5000.

    I am most happy :)

  5. Is the final rwbhp figure a healthy one for a almost standard bandy 900?

  6. I’d guess you’d know more than most. What does a good standard one of these pump out?

  7. Given this is a 620 monster, I’d say it looks about right...although I know some guys have hit the 72hp limit easily when racing 800’s in mini twins and had to dial back the power ;)

  8. I don't know chap but I know my old '79 900SS Bevel is making more torque and power than that...
TBH I was surprised the "Bandy's" figures weren't higher than that though?

  9. Jhp use the inverse exam algorithm.

  10. As the original OP stated it’s about real usability on the road that counts. You don’t need impressive BHP figures to do that, my favourite and most rideable Jap bike was a GS750 with 68 bhp.

  11. I was surprised that I only had 77hp from Steve Jordan's dyno with a 1000 bottom end and 900 heads. I have an open airbox, K&N with a MADSL spaghetti system. It lost 1000 revs without the baffles so it may need a little more fettling somewhere.

That said, it is lots of fun and revs really well now! :)

  12. It does pull! I need to put in the ST2 cams from my old 900 motor and get it dynoed again with the correct jets as Steve wanted to go down to 130 mains. An ongoing project, like all good old bikes!

  13. I've owned Ducati's for well over 41 years now and have loved them all (and still do owning my 900SS for over 41 years) but...
The most rideable/enjoyable and "The best bang for buck" bike I've ever owned was a '83 Yamaha YPVS Mk1 with a '87 Terry Beckett Production race tuned motor that had around 65 rwbhp.
I could write my name on the ceiling with that bike and see off anything else on the road up to 125 mph, after that the "Superbikes" would pull away on roads that had looong enough straights. However the little 350 would top out around 137mph.

  15. I remember a chap twpd (sadly died in a bike accident iirc) who was winning all sort of mini twins on his super sorted 800 ss. He played down top end power, to keep under the limits, but had huge flat torque and power. Sounds like as the graph above :upyeah:
