Hi all, just returned from a nice 8 day trip from Caen through France, over the Pyrenees, a few days in Northern Spain and home on the Bilbao - Portsmouth ferry. Just over 1300 very enjoyable miles - apart from the bloody awful weather. While sorting my 696 I noticed that the chain has gone a little slack and needs adjusting. The owners manual states that only the axle nut on the right hand side needs to be slackened and then the chain adjusted equally on both sides by using the adjusters. Not that I'm doubting the manual, but I was expecting to have to slacken the axle nuts on both sides. Any advice would be great. Thanks.
I've a feeling we only loosened the axle nut on one side when we adjusted my chain a couple of weeks ago. I seem to remember everything was a bit stiff and seized and it needed 2 of us with a breaker bar to get any movement from the axle nut - but suspect that may be due to my riding over winter in the salt and filth and not being a member of the obsessive cleaning and polishing Ducatisti tribe.
