So after i introduced myself in the newbie section, it's time to get dirty. Recap: I got a 83 Pantah 600, it's a started project, the previous owner who was a bike mechanic sadly passed away a month ago. so iv'e decide to take the project and finish the bike. the current status: frame was cleaned a powder coated black Wheels rebuilt an painted black - i would like to re paint them gold as they should be fork rebuilt new bitubo rear shocks installed front and rear calipers rebuilt. engine cleaned and media blasted, not opened - supposed to be in good working order carbs are mess, hopefully they are serviceable body panels fairly ok , will need close inspection and re-paint, front and rear fenders are missing, as well as the side panels. seat and bum stop need re covering i got some bins of parts with it so i'll need to sort what small items i got, their condition and what's missing. i haven't found any fairing brackets yet. Petrol tank has a lot of bubbling under the paint, i'll need to strip it and check the condition. R/H switch assembly is missing, there is another switch installed loom and electrical parts seem quite good and complete except for some torn insulation My plan is to restore it as close as possible to original running condition.
Both headlights that came with the bike seem not original and in a poor condition. will a 7" headlight fir or will be to small?
Hmmm. Still available, though not cheap! https://www.malossistore.co.uk/4558-carb-phf-36-as-ducati-pantah-600-A04558-dupa600-M-P
The A might stand for Accelerator pumps. D is Destra (italian for Right) and S is Sinistra (Italian for Left).
No idea I’m afraid, but you may get a more useful answer from Ducati Paddy: http://www.ducatipaddy.com/page37.html
If you can get all the jets out the carbs can probably be restored with the help of an ultrasonic cleaner with a carb cleaning fluid. All parts are available from Eurocarb and used carbs and many new parts are available from Ducati Paddy who was helpful in providing parts for the 500SL when I was restoring it.
Thanks again, the parts are in the cleaner now although i only used water and dishwasher tablet, migt need to try something stronger
AS and AD are simply left and right; exactly the same but with the idle and throttle stop screws on opposite sides.
little updates: Tank is garbage, had it sand blasted today, it can be used as a sip maybe, so i need to find another one. i vapor blasted the carbs and they look much much better, maybe the can be used after all, although the slides are worn, what do you guys think? can i get new slides? i will need to get new diaphragms, and in one carb the choke piston is stuck, still need to figure how to get it out. here are some "before" and "after" shots After I took of the timing covers, things are dirty inside, i will clean it and get newt belts and rollers
Reading on slides on the web, it seems that the "OLD" type is no longer available, my carbs seems to be the "Newer" type with the cutouts in the carb body where the slide rest, so i hope the "NEW" type slides will work without any modifications. can someone confirm this?
I ordered all the parts for rebuilding the carbs from ducati paddy. Also on the way are new timing belts and few other bits and pieces. I need to find a gas tank, hope this will be possible. And I need to rewire the pickups. Can the pickup plate be removed and installed back easly or there's some kind of adjustment needed? If I'm not rotating the engine while the plate is off?
