Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Raymond Dunscombe, Sep 11, 2020.

  1. Have just changed oil/filter and the bike won't start, its a 2006 m620,its fitted with a Datatool s4 alarm, normally press button on alarm key fob to disarm alarm and light on dash flickers to indicate alarm disarmed and put key in ignition and bike starts up fine, when I now press alarm button on fob light doesn't flicker on dash put in key in ignition(normally alarm would go off if alarm not disarmed but doesn't)turn key all the dials move as before ready to start but engine won't turn over?? can't see how changing the oil/filter could have anything to do with this surely???!! any ideas would be very appreciated.never has problems before starting bike.Help please

  2. It does sound like a coincidence but strong possibility it's your Datatool alarm failing. Not sure if S4 is the same as earlier versions, but the Mercury movement sensor switch begins to degrade and halts all normal functions of the alarm. If it is the alarm then best thing you can do is remove or get removed.

  3. yes that's what I thought have tried by passing alarm still the same response.

  4. Does the bike have a standard Ducati immobiliser with code card etc?

Might be worth a reset with the Code card number.

    Nasher.

  5. Did you disconnect the battery recently ? I had similar once when I had not tightened up the screws holding the ignition surround in place just ahead of the tank.

  6. just for ref - i'm sure you've already scanned this:-

    https://www.datatool.co.uk/faq-s4-red/

there is a section where it explains how the internal battery could be damaged "if left standing" therby needing replacing..

  7. Mine has those symptoms if the battery fob starts to go down. Granted it would be coincidence but something to try.

  8. Yes think I will get it removed, have tried to bypass it, got info off internet so not sure if accurate, but still the same, any idea of what's involved in removing the alarm?? and possible cost,
yes have code card etc. Thanks for suggestion.

  9. Mine has the s4 datatool. When the battery has been off a while and you connect it back up, i have to trigger the alarm by trying to start it without dis-arming it. The siren goes, press fob to turn off and then it’s good to go as normal. Prob of no help, but one of it’s quirks.

  10. Tried putting key in ignition, no alarm.Have had the alarm removed, all good now, starts up fine!!
Thanks Chris!! and thanks to all who tried to help.

  11. I do electrical work for a local bike shop and most of it involves fixing charging faults, usually regulators but sometimes stators too, and removing problematic alarms.
