  8. Oil and filter change time.
No nasties in the oil and fresh Castrol Power Racing, Hiflo filter and crush washer in.
Took it up the road about 100 yards. It selects 1-3 plus neutral ok. First ride!!:D
While the fairings are still off I fitted the R&G rad guard that the previous owner gave me but never fitted. Why do people do that? A bit of a faff to fit I suppose so he couldn’t be arsed. My gain.
Next step is to refit fairings (after a bit of a clean up), tax and insure and go give it the beans.

  9. Imho easier to drop the fork normally

  10. TBH it was simple, all the fixtures have come away really easily.
Forks will come off for oil change etc over winter once I’m happy it’s ok.

  14. Big day today as I insured and taxed the little triple. Put 50 totally trouble free miles on her, I knew she would be OK but you never know until you actually ride them. Ventured out with bike all put together bar the tail unit that is still in the paintshop.

    Initial thoughts:

    • Bugger me you have to rev the tits off it (forgot after years of bigger engines)
    • Forks feel ok. Shock soft.
    • A bit twitchy on bumps, but rear tyre is squared off and front is from 2011
    • Throttle has too much slop in it
    • Clutch is biting way out
    • Shift lights come on at 8000 rpm when red line is 14500
    • F' all steering lock, just like my D765
    • Clutch cover paint that I patched up not good enough
    Good bits:
    • Bike tracks straight as an arrow
    • Brakes in a straight line
    • Rear brake howls the rear tyre
    • Exhaust is....fruity
    • Gearbox is really nice. Smooth and slick. Clutchless shifts up and down no problem (not that I will be doing too much of that, well, not down anyway).
    • It is easily capable of exceeding the national speed limit (closed roads only)
    • It was super, super cheap.
    After the ride I:
    • Adjusted the throttle cables
    • Adjusted the clutch
    • Took off my crap paint which I had been lazy with and reapplied (just waiting for it to cure now)
    • Set the forks preload, rebound and comp high and low back to standard
    • Set the rear shock rebound and hi/low compression to standard - dont know what the standard preload is yet
    • Set the shift light to blink at 14000 rpm and go mental at 14500
In the post today some 675 decals for the tail piece turned up, courtesy of The Image Works who are just brilliant.

I made a boo-boo and bought a set of Lightech rear sets i spotted on eBay with road and race shift but have yet to be delivered.

    Next steps:
    • Get tail unit on plus decals
    • Change the tyres for the Rosso Corsa 2's I had on my 996
    • Pop over to Cooksters to get an MoT as I would like to give it a bit of a longer run on better rubber and try out the standard suspension.
    • Then, off the road and track prep begins.
    • Watching eBay like a hawk at the moment :eyes:
That's better, cam chain and clutch cover now looking pretty smart again.....

  17. First small issue this afternoon.

The tyres are being changed on Tuesday and I have a busy time this weekend and Monday running Dad to hospital so I removed the wheels this afternoon in readiness.

The lower front brake caliper bolt was seriously torqued down. Very odd as the others were fine. Got the bolt out with a little persuasion.

These calipers attach to the forks with a small hollow dowel which is half recessed into the fork lower, half in the caliper and the caliper bolt slides through it. Belt and braces. Four bolts, four dowells. Nope. Just the three. Hence the torqued down bolt. I think the last time the brakes were off it would have been a Triumph dealer which is somewhat unforgivable if that were to be the case.

New dowel ordered for the princely sum of £1.45. Makes you wonder :thinkingface:
