  1. Hiya, Welcome to the Forum Smithy, see post #197 above - dodgy connection to the horizontal cylinder injector. A previous 'mechanic' obviously pulled the cable to disengage the connector from the injector and in doing so pulled the spade connectors too far into their sockets meaning they didn't make full and continuous contact with the spades in the injector.

  2. So. Now it’s running properly and it’s not winter. Are you using it? Or is it in bits? Or(more likely :D) are you trying to get it in bits and have just gone quiet in case of sprocketgate 2, the return of the toothed beastie?

  3. LOL - no sprocketgate on this one :). Unfortunately, it still has a misfire  so I was waiting for something to arrive, which it did yesterday, and then I was going to strip it down and check the connection again.

I managed to get hold of some 54mm titanium pipes (thank you @funkatronic) which arrived yesterday and I plan to fit them this afternoon. At the same time I will double check the connector to the front injector and make sure it hasn't;t suffered a re-occurence of the issue.

  4. Be careful with the ECU mate. Remember that the Rev limit might be set too high on a changed one depending if it was fitted to an S or non S model.

  5. enjoy them paul, should be fine its an "S" ecu

  6. Something? Sounds fun! :D

The rev counter on my 996 was....... temperamental.
At Donington I was changing gear by ear/feel but I did find out it had a rev limiter still connected :motorcycleduc:
Gawd knows what RPM it was set at though.
    Love these journeys of discovery.

  7. This afternoon, as planned, I removed the 50mm carbon fibre Termis and replaced them with 54mm titanium ones plus the 50-54mm link pipe:upyeah:. Now I have to fit the ECU (54mm open pipe) that came with them but that’s straightforward.

I also now need to find some spacers so I can fit the right hand footrest back as it now won’t fit due to the increased pipe diameter :(.

  10. Thanks, as @funkatronic says, I believe it came off an S so all should be fine:upyeah:

  11. There’s carbon fibre and then there’s carbon fibre. If one wants to see the difference between a genuine Ducati (or made for Ducati) piece and a 3rd party one of unknown manufacture just take a look at the photos below.

The top photo shows the chain guard and brake line holder. Look how thick the DP one is (bottom in the photo) compared to the non-DP one.

This photo shows how thin the rear hugger is on an unknown make 3rd party, just look at all the pinholes that only become visible when it’s held up to the light

  12. Talk about lightweight as in it doesn't weigh fuck all, it's full of air!:joy:

  13. My MS Productions rear hugger is like that with the pin holes. Doesn’t weigh much and that’s why lol

  14. This afternoon I set about changing the ECU as a consequence of which a couple of questions arise.

    1. there’s an earth connection going into the case of the ECU, I presume there should be, it all looks original and disappears off into the loom. However, it’s affixed to a long M6 bolt that‘s one of 2 which secure the ECU to the battery holder. The hole they pass through on the ECU though is 8mm in diameter so the ECU will wiggle around on the M6 bolt which doesn’t seem to me to be a very secure earth connection if that’s what it’s meant to be.

Right underneath it is a threaded M6 socket/hole (the one with the screwdriver in) which would make a much more secure earth connection.

Is it right that there’s an earth where I found it?

    2. second question. Is the tape around the cable to ECU plug standard?

The same tape is used in a number of places on the loom so I’m guessing it’s OEM but a) it’s deteriorating - is that normal? and b) once removed the ECU plug is very very loose & wiggly, can’t be good for the connections of all those small wires. Should there be a rubber waterproof boot or something in that area?

  15. yes, tape is normal. :upyeah:

  16. Thanks Chris:upyeah:.

Mind you Luigi did a bit of a shoddy job on it, I’ll have to do something better when replacing it.

  17. Use blue tape, to go with your fingers :D
