1260 Looking At A 1260s

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by J biker, Sep 20, 2020.

  1. You didn't mention which mode you were in when whizzzing around the corners. If it was Touring then it does tend to wallow at speed. Sport mode helps but as Fire3500 says, it still holds the bends well. I've got lot of confidence in mine despite the movement. It's a bit like a powerful sports car - it all works well but you need to get your speed and lines right so it stays balanced.

You're right about the seat. I can live with it but I know that sort of thing really annoys some people. A friend of mine who tried mine out comented on the same thing.

  2. Tried all modes. Power and suspension, had a real good fiddle. Even upped the settings to two riders. Could not find a sweet spot. Felt vague and twitchy mid corner where the GS would just be planted.

  3. Did think the longer wheelbase would make it solid mid corner, but it felt way below par with my base 2013. Very surprised.

  4. There’s your answer then. How tall / fat are you?

  5. I agree with the vague feeling! Came back to the Multi from an XR and I’m struggling!
The beemer was awesome leant over and throttle response perfect. I find I have to be really precise with the Duc!
Annoying really because I love the styling and sound of the Duc!

  6. Performance/comfort seat cures the sliding forward

  7. Six foot. Around 14stone. Still in old money o_O

  8. Touring mode, rear preload 20, rear harder, front harder... it’ll be a lot more composed.

  9. Have you tried the 1290Super Adventure?

  10. Nope. The KTM makes the GS look like a stunner..... ;)

  12. Undersprung at the rear , that’s how Multis feel in my opinion, I blame it on skinny Italian test riders !
Agree that the XR/GS definitely hold a line better at speed

  13. I believe the DSS (Skyhook) system will do just this for you. Yes, the PP has Ohlins, but do you really need Ohlins?

I notice you are close to Limoges? I have family just a little way south of Limoges in St. Sozy, in between Souillac and Martel, so I know all about the wonderful roads in that region! :upyeah:

  14. It was back end that felt not right. Under sprung and under damped. And in need of steering damper. Gutted tbh as loved so much about the bike and fancied a change. Ok, can crank the back up by increasing pre load, but it was just partly masking an issue. Also suspect the tyres were underinflated, dash sensor said front was 1.9 bar, cant remember what was at the back.

Just converted this and looks like front had about 30psi.

So bound to handle shit on standard tyres on a cool day.

This defo would add to issues. Probably due to recent drop in temperature and Ducati Limoges not bothering with checking!

Only so much can squeeze in on a two hour test ride though and cant gamble at twenty thou euro prices. Would get to the bottom of it and sort it IF I had too, but have other choices that work without fettling.

  15. To repeat...
    Ok just buy the GS

...but thanks for stopping by, always good to know how crap our bikes are! :)

  16. Tires at 30 psi are under-inflated. 36 psi fore and aft is the recommended std for rider only.
42 psi rear for a fully loaded bike with pillion.
Throttle spacers will improve throttle response considerably by removing the excess slop.
Lighter / stronger Marchesini wheels and Ohlins suspension makes it even better.
At sub-light speed, the Multistrada handles better than a Panigale. It's either the settings or lack of familiarity.
I would suggest you take it out again for a another demo ride.

  17. Sorry you feel like that about them. I have had two with only 985406F6-ACF3-4CEC-BB17-78DDC5B70472.jpeg 0CAE36A0-C65C-4746-8387-C50AB58198C7.jpeg some small problems on the 2013 Multi.

You might be right. It was only this morning when I bothered to convert the bar to psi that it struck me how low the tyre pressure was.

  18. Wow. Beautiful 1098S. Love the gold Marchesini's on that tri-color.

  19. Rode it 3 times on road. Sounded amazing with the termis and quick too. Plan was to keep long term, maybe even in the house on display (nearly had the wife convinced!)..then sold it when decided to move to France as re registering older bikes is a pain.

  20. I looked in the menu but could only find three modes, also plus rider/luggage. Where is the preload hidden? Tempted to have another try if the set up was way off plus under inflated tyres it would make sense.
