  1. Well done. :upyeah:

  2. Is that what counts cor an apology these days?

  3. For what? If I list more impressive bikes than any on that list, currently sitting in my garage, would that warrant an "apology"? Maybe even count as "research"?

  4. Thick Coont.

  5. Superb retort. If you are going down that route, I'll park my input here.

  6. Anyhoo..
So which is better for a fast road bike - 1098R or 1198S? Did we find out?

  8. Got to pull you up on this Andrew, old bean. Because you're wrong. That's right. Wrong :grinning:

The 1098R is the best V twin Ducati produced IMO. Ducati were hell bent on chasing horsepower figures with the Panigale to stay with the IL4 stuff. So they had to build an oversquare engine. Fluffy low down, bonkers up top. But that destroyed the characteristics of the outgoing lump- instant shove low down. Ok, so the 1098R loses out a bit up top, but it doesn't matter. To make the Panigales work, you have to keep them on the boil. Like an IL4. Look at some dyno comparisons. The 1098R has them dicked until you get to silly revs. And if you like silly revs, get an IL4.

Although I always liked the look of the Panigales, I never wanted one because the 1098R had them covered. Ducati knew the game was up with the V twin. Which is why the switched to the V4 configuration. Which is when I got interested again and bought one.

  10. True, but these can be sorted :upyeah:But you can't sort an oversquare engine with a questionable power delivery.

  11. What like they did to the 996r and the 998r ...and then funnily enough the 1098r 2 mm oversize bore...

  12. All about the stroke lad. All about the stroke...

  13. Amd have been on your old one haven’t they? ;)

  16. So, thought I read somewhere the 1198 gearbox is stronger than the 1098 gearbox. If that's the case, does the 1098R have a standard 1098 chocolate gearbox?

  17. 1098R and a GSX-R1000R will suit me more I think.

  18. The 1098 is an 1198
Firstly the 1098R is an 1198 (but I guess you knew that) the 848 / 1098 gearbox is different to the 2008 1098R gearbox and in 2009 it changed again for the 1098R and 1198 base and S models which were now all the same. The main reason they destruct I would guess is through the use of aftermarket quick shifters causing issues. Don't think many go pop, maybe @nelly can enlighten us :):upyeah:

  19. When the engine was it rebuilt the gearbox was all inspected and it had a few gears replaced

  20. Shame the standard gears have a 6th as an overdrive.

The RS, Nova and BSD have a 1:1 6th gear
