848 Adjusting Rear Brake Pedals

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by DRL, Oct 20, 2020.

  1. Hi guys

I'm a little confused how to adjust the rear brake pedal (I want to lower it) .... according to the manual theres a screw/lock nut I can adjust to lower the brake pedal height which i can easily do but it leaves me with no free play and I'm confused about how to adjust the length of the master cylinder pushrod. Has the diagram in manual mixed up images linked to (6) and (7)? Where is the locknut in (7)?

  2. Adjust 4 and 5 to where you want the lever.

Then adjust the rod to the cylinder 6 and 7 to achieve the free play.

  3. Items 6 and 7 do appear to have been reversed in the diagram although the description is correct. Andy

  4. how do I screw the rod into the clevis? It won't budge by hand and theres no way for me to get spanner on it? Mole grips?

  5. I have race rear sets fitted so cannot check but IIRC, the clevis is held in place on the back of the brake lever (behind the frame) by a 3mm or 4mm pin that if removed, allows you to withdraw the pushrod from the brake master cylinder. The rod is only held in by the rubber. If you still need to use mole grips once the rod/clevis is out, be careful not to mark up the rod. Andy

  6. ok thats what I thought but there was no mention of having to remove the clevis in the manual

  7. No need to remove clevis.

Undo lock nut and rotate rod into/out of it as needed.

  8. Keep up, #4. From my own experience of the rear brake lever requiring adjustment (for small feet ..... not mine) removing the clevis/rod assembly is the least hassle except for the Mk1 1200 Multistrada which needs the footrest to be removed. Andy

  9. Has he undone the lockout?

Is the rod in as far as it goes?

Doss it need a shorter slave rod?

  10. I'd loosen off all the MC stuff first, then adjust the pedal to where you want it. When that's done, adjust the MC rod/clevis/joint/whatever to obtain correct brake action. Otherwise you may working against the MC (& brake) while adjusting your pedal.

  11. Something to keep in mind is that you may need to adjust the brake sensor as well otherwise the brake light might not turn or won't turn on unless you fully depress the brake lever. I had to add multiple washers in order to move the sensor plunger back from the mounting bracket. With this modification my brake light turns with the slightest movement of the brake lever.

  12. Dont overload the lad..

  13. Yeah understand about the brake light, it's fine

I just thought I was missing something as the manual had 6 and 7 mixed up

All I need to know is a suggestion about a tool to use to turn the rod and it won't budge by hand
