Cans Have Arrived

Discussion in 'Monster' started by bradders, Oct 9, 2020.

  1. They look good anyone know which kit is needed

  2. iirc mine were M8 for my 2009 Monster 1100 so I presume yours, and Bradders will be the same.

Just checked they were M8 x 41mm - Kit 7. They come up a little bit shorter than the OEM ones with regards to part of the stud that protrudes from the head - made me think I hadn't tightened up the nut enough or didn't have the manifold sitting correctly when I first did it as there wasn't as much stud protruding through the nut, but all was good.

  3. Thought Bradders bike would be M6

I didn't even use a torque wrench in the good old days. What happened to those simpler times?

  6. That’s why you use the right spender/Allen key. It self regulates torque unless you have forearms like Popeye

  8. I don't buy new bikes (IIRC the newest one I've ever owned was a 2006 R6 in around 2008) so this isn't based on first hand knowledge, but the received wisdom from reading about this sort of thing in the bike press seems to be that new bikes are strangled by very restrictive exhaust systems and the systems are very heavy due to all the catalytic convertors, flaps, motors and valves fitted to them etc. Modern end cans also look enormous - for example, the one fitted to the 2020 GSXR looks like a bloody printer - and so they must weight a ton. I've also noticed that OE end cans get a lot hotter than aftermarket items and having just looked at a pic of the Tiger 900, the end can is a high level one and so close to the rider's leg and even more so, a pillion (plus look at the size of the damn thing!).

  9. I always use NeverSeez on things like exhaust studs/bolts/nuts. I use it at work on jet engines for similar reasons. Seems to work well !

  11. And glow plugs !

  12. Finally got there. Some help from Nelly in what gasket I needed and Cookster in somewhere local to sort out the poor threads on the spark down pipes : unamused:

The straps were a real pita to get sorted! But think worth it: looks so much better and imho way better than the termi system

Just a DP flash to go. Can’t wait to try it!

  14. Clip ons certainly. I'm not so sure about the belly pan. I have a couple of different ones but never feel my bike look right with them mounted...

    How do the pipes sound?

  15. Quiet still compared to that awful rattling clutch! They have baffles riveted in so may take them out, not sure yet

  16. There's a dry clutch rattle fix I've heard tell -don't know it personally as I think they sound great!

  17. They look nice:yum
Which supplier did you get them from and how long did you have to wait for them?

  18. eBay, mototopgun and took about a week. The spark headers came from Italy (eBay again) and was maybe 2 weeks tops. Full system ended up being about £840

  19. I've ordered a pair of Mivv high level carbon slip ons for my M695, via Motorcycle Performance Store.
None in stock so they said it would be about 4 weeks.
That was 3 weeks ago, probably not the best time to be ordering stuff like that:(

  20. And....a decent clutch pressure plate to replace that nasty grey cast thing!

    Pipes look lovely though!
