Desmo 1452 Is All Mine!!

Discussion in 'D16 Desmosedici RR' started by James Thomas, Oct 21, 2020.

  1. Beautiful bike, would love one.

  2. Ride it!!! seriously! If you are going to do miles on it, would surely be worth the conversion to 17" rear, but if it's just for the odd run out and you aren't pushing then maybe a newer set of standard Bridgestones if you can get some NOS ones.

    My Dream bike.. No doubt

  3. A nice bit of kit,enjoy the Bhp power.:upyeah:

  4. From what you say ‘ the lead technician took it around the block once a month’ the bike might have condensation in the oil etc. So oil and I would say brake/clutch fluids also need changing, and a little furry animal might have made a home in the air filter areas? What I’m really saying is your new pride and joy needs a damn good thrashing, now where or how can we get that organised folks????

  5. The dream bike still, even with the superleggera on the market, there is just something special about the desmo.

Now how can I get a go on one?

  8. Ah mate!!

Many congrats!! Wouldn't it have been great to meet up and ride them together over to Kalba and back!!

Ride it, they are mental bikes!! Crazy loud and mega mega hot, much happier when at higher speed - a truly body and mind rattling experience but soo worth it!!

On the wheels, get a 17" on the back and some modern rubber for it. If you want to head down the budget route, try and source a pair of wheels from a 999R. Think you need a spacer for the rear IIRC. New alternatives are PVM & OZ (close to OEM), BST with their carbon flavour or the Marchesini Genesi M7R which is the same as the OEM wheel.

When I was looking for wheels and approached a company that had good contacts in Marchesini, they refused to build the wheels from me. Something about license rights!! Anyways, I got a set in the end but they would only make them in Magnesium!!! $£$£$£$£... PVM & OZ offer theirs in aluminium.

Tim at Ducati will keep you right on these as there are a few thing you'll need to do (recall's and knowledge of issues), but the main area to focus on is suspension. They are rock hard. Loads of thread on what's best, but a front spring change is a good option.

Enjoy it mate, really am gutted we couldn't have ridden them together!!

  12. Same. Someone in here (I think it was Andy) mentioned that he saw one without the GP pipe sell for £39k. I still haven’t seen one below £45k. What’s the lowest you’ve seen and perhaps more importantly what direction are the prices going in at the moment?

  13. There was one at my local around a year a half ago on their workbench having a service which sold for £42k.

  14. Fantastic, your one lucky man. I wish you the very best of luck with this beautiful machine

  15. Thanks for all the comments folks!

First few days of Desmo ownership have seen some highs and lows...
    - High - in my garage and, my god, she’s a pretty bike!
    - Low - the Dealer forgot to deliver the paddock stand and books with the bike so need to sort out getting those
    - High - it starts on the button and sounds *glorious*
    - Low - the tires really are like plastic so won’t be seeing much proper use until I can find replacements
    - Low - went to start it a couple of days later and the starter motor won’t shut off when the bike starts. Quickly turn it off again and hope it magically fixes itself...
    - High - try again today and it seems to be fine now! So, lid on and up the road I go for a first ride. WOW! What a beast!! It sounds like thunder and pulls like a modern liter bike. It’s a LOT smoother than the v-twins, but just as grunty. Feels agile but stable too. I’ve got to get this thing on a track!
    - Low - While gently putting the soft OEM cover back on, I appear to have just snapped off both rear indicators!!! WTF?!? Fortunately a quick look online and I’ve ordered new parts and they weren’t unobtainium or horrifically expensive!
