After returning from our trip from the Black Forest last month, finally got time to do some general maintenance to the bike. I loosened the pinch bolts on the swingarm to adjust the chain, as the bolts were covered in chain lube decided to remove and clean them, on removing them i found lots of large metal fillings stuck to end of both bolts, These are obviously from the inside of the hub, Is this an issue with Multis? not found any threads about this problem. Has anyone else removed the bolts and seen this?
I've not heard of rear hubs breaking up. They can seize due to road detritus that gets in via the swing arm. Also I don't think there is direct access to the pinch bolt holes/threads in the swing arm from the hub or void inside. That looks like aluminium swarf to me. If so it is most likely to be left over from drilling and tapping the holes and not cleaned out before assembly. Naughty Ducati but not a problem.
Mine was just the same. It is very disconcerting; it looks like someone has got it cross threaded and graunched it in. I am amazed that the swarf is not cleaned out before assembly!
