1260 How Waterproof Are The Panniers And Top Box?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by freshage, Oct 27, 2020.

  1. I know the top box has a pretty shoddy seal, so not expecting any miracles there. But what about the panniers? I never had an issue on my 1200 and I rode through some pretty bad storms. I'm riding from Amsterdam to Reading on Saturday and it looks like it's gonna tip it down the entire time.

Wet nads is one thing, but wet panniers is another.

  2. Wrap your inner pannier bag or kit bag in a large bin liner/black sack (other colours available). Andy

  3. Neither my topbox or panniers ever leaked. Just ensure you don't overfill is the key.

The pannier bags make it easier to fill correctly.

  4. Ordering pink bags now.

I'm actually headed to Ducati Amsterdam tomorrow, I'll see if they have the pannier bags. Thanks mate

  5. Never had any problem with mine leaking either

  6. Rode in some pretty biblical weather last year whilst on tour, neither panniers or top box leaked. I do use inner bags, ones off ebay. They're robust and fit pretty well and are considerably cheaper than the Ducati ones.

  7. No problems in 23,000 miles of all weather riding (though the latch mechanism jams easily from road grime).

  8. I use the Ducati inner bags in my panniers (anyone running a Multi with top box needs some help!), and haven’t had any leaks at all. Which is important as I normally carry a £2k MacBook in there!

  9. Mine have never leaked, used the Ducati inner bags and top box bag, the 1200DVT bags are the same, picked them up at good prices off eBay!!

  10. I've always ensure I wrap my Ducati liners with dustbin bags as an extra precaution. I have noticed from time to time, some water ingress, however, never that much to be fair.

  11. I've never used pannier bags & ridden through some horrendous weather & only once was there a very small damp patch on stuff in the panniers. I've never had water ingress in the top box.....which has always surprised me because it looks like it's not sealed very well.

  12. Box is great , the panniers can leak

  13. My old 100DS panniers leaked but only if I placed the bike on the side stand for sometime. The new ones on my 1200 and 1260 don't leak despite very heavy rain.

  14. Cool, thanks all! I'll not fret too much, it's the laptop I'm mostly concerned about but I'll just wrap it in a large ziplock bag, the rest is fine.

  15. I used to ride from NW London to Reading everyday with my laptop, suit, shoes etc in the top box often in very bad weather without an issue.

  16. Never had any issues with mine
