1260 Ducati Multistrada 1260 V4 !! 190hp

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by victit, Jul 9, 2019.

  1. Having just sat through my speed awareness course perhaps this is the bike that will slow me down a little. Because there’s no way it’ll keep up with a 1260 PP on the road. Perhaps if I was off to Morocco though :p

  2. Although I sold my MTS several years ago I've stayed a member on here and watched with interest the growing speculation about the new model.
From my point of view it's firmly in the "Nope" category of motorbikes. Too costly, too heavy, too technologically advanced for technology's sake. I always thought the Triumph Explorer was an ugly old lump that looked like someone had dipped a magnet in a scrap pile but at £8k (Eight thousand pounds, say that out loud) less than the MTS it's far more tempting.
The KTM was clearly designed by a committee with Ray Charles, Helen Keller and Stevie Wonder on it but it also has a certain appeal.
So what do I buy next? I've been without a bike on the road for a few years now, I didn't miss it at first but I am looking for something to add to the garage. Sadly, at the moment I don't think it will have "Made in Bologna" on it.

  3. As I see it, the answer to this is yes it does. If you look a little more closely at the photos, it looks to me like there is both an upper (just to the right of the rear light) and slightly lower forward mount(just to the left of where the trellis frame ends). Check out the lower of the "New Honda Multistrada" photos posted by Chuki above and I think you will see what I mean.:upyeah:

  4. That is a boot. You can see the tire just a little bit to the right and up in a picture.

  5. Brilliant and 100% in the same position, not that I'm in any rush to move mine on. I love everything about the KTM, bar the styling. I look at the new MT-09 and wonder who the person was that said 'yep, bang on that'!

It's not that hard or expensive to make pretty bikes, same with cars. But we seem to be producing bikes that more and more look a little abstract.

As for what to buy, I'll be getting the new V4 Streetfighter R. Same as the standard model but with a three quarter fairing and a slightly more spacious riding position.

It's coming, only a matter of time!

  6. Im sure that Ducati will pick up "our" surprise that they haven't offered a replacement for the (perhaps I should now say) "old" 1260 model and it hasn't gone down particularly well. Im fortunate that I have a 1 year old PP and not likely to change it for around 12 months.
However they will lose me as a customer if they don't launch a road only bias model. My bet is that they will.
Im fortunate that I buy my bikes based on looks, performance and general feeling that you get when you walk into your garage and its sitting there; and price has little influence.
However I see nothing in this new range yet that remotely interests me.
Perhaps the Ewan & Charlie wannabees will be attracted away from the Fatherlands tractors o_O, who knows.

Shame really. We will see :bucktooth:

  7. Some very good points there, and I'm sure you're not the only one thinking it. I've had A LOT of GS's over the years (over 10!), and couldn't wait to get away from BMW. What you've said here nails it for me, I'll be keeping my 1260......

Until I see a V4PP or R in the flesh, and all reason goes out the window! :D

  8. GaryO - agree 100% with your sentiments.

It's been discussed elsewhere in this place but an updated Supersport with a better dash, ''regular' cruise control, Ohlins and a more powerful engine would be an interesting move. Price it around £15k and it would be in the sweet spot.

  9. The 939 version is £14k. I think it would be much closer to £20k if they made one.

  13. Also coming out are Monsters which no longer use the trellis frame design and use the 939 engines. Plus a new Pani V4 SP (carbon wheels) too. Lots of changes afoot.

  14. The one on the left is the one id choose

Oops!! i already did, and love it!!

  15. Just run me through the thinking behind the trellis frame on the rear end? It’s ugly. Is it cheaper than the cast one on the previous model?

I just don’t get the logic of developing a new V4 engine and putting it in an ‘Off Roader’.

Off roading with a £20k+ machine, you’d have to be nuts on various levels.

  16. Why is the one side of the Engine Gold and the other side Silver?

  17. The more I look at it, compared to the 1260, the more unimpressed I am. I was expecting to really like it, but I feel disappointed at what’s been revealed.

  19. Not for me, looks like a cross between a GS/ KTM and a Triumph with a premium price tag too.
