Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Alan williams, Oct 30, 2020.

  2. Left school 16 and walked straight into the family printing business and did a 4yr apprenticeship as a Lithographic 4 Colour Planner. At the time the 'old man said "printing son is a job for life"............
Stuck with that and worked my way through the technology changes from film and sellotape to Apple Mac's and Photoshop. Moved on to middle management and finally on to Sales but by then the whole industry was pretty much on its arse, the money of the old days was long gone and my last years in sales really highlighted to me how dire the whole industry had become. So after 27 years and the current company going to the wall it was time for a change.
So for the past 5yrs I've been a field service engineer for a major domestic appliance manufacturer, bit of a change but i've always been a hands on type of person so settled into it pretty easily, the moneys not as good, (although could be if I wanted to put the hours in) but the work/life balance is a whole lot better.

  3. a washing machine repairman then ? Big up to you Bud there's going to a fair few wishing they had done the same as you before to long.

  4. Yeah basically that  (and the other appliances too)

  5. of course............ :eyes:

  6. Whilst on the internet I accidentally stumbled across what appeared to be a documentary, or possibly a training video, about a man who fixed washing machines. Not quite what I expected and all looks a bit strenuous to me....:astonished:

  7. Did he actually fix the washing machine?

  8. Ackers knows what he is up to ! He prefers front loaders.........

  9. Have you still your twin tub and mangle Port?

  10. El T, I’m not sure there was anything wrong with the washing machine in the first place, It appeared that the repair man came round to perform some ‘routine servicing’, but I somehow suspect you are more than familiar with the outcome.....

  11. When I was a kid, one of my dads drinking buddies was a washing machine repairman. He got caught on that Rogue Traders show with concealed cameras, most faults are due to something getting stuck so he’d whip that out in a few minutes then remove some sort of electronic board and present that as the “fault” to the client but wouldn’t you believe the luck, he has the exact replacement on the van! Quick wipe with a rag, put it in an empty box and trot back, they’re quite expensive those boards madam...
