1260 Ducati Multistrada 1260 V4 !! 190hp

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by victit, Jul 9, 2019.

  1. Is that a definite?

  2. Thats what my dealer told me

When I was pushing him if they were going to release the Multi we are looking for . SSSA and 17" FW

  3. I can' see a SSSA happening, there isn't room for it with the V4 engine.

  4. Is the engine mounted at the back of the bike then? :p:D

  5. Euro 5 means the exhaust is in the way.

  6. Yet they manage it on a Panigale....

  7. Maybe it’ll come with the full system as standard.

  8. Very different design of bike, chassis and exhaust.

Looking at the V4, it would take some significant redesign. The collector box on the V4 is much bigger than on the V2.

  9. The seat looks good tho? One less thing to fix....

  10. Maybe if they painted the swingarm black, it would blend in better.

  11. The V4 dimensions were used as a highlight in the presentation. There was room with the bigger V2 ....

  12. Survey completed, disappointment made clear and intention to hang onto my 1260 pending a more suitable package for my needs from Ducati or another manufacturer.

I don't mind, too much, the absence of the SSSA. Don't like the excessive tech such as integral GPS (tying me to a system I wouldn't otherwise choose) and the radar controlled cruise control. The engine seems to be great and ideal for what I'd want but wrapped up in a bike with too much of an off-road bias... The styling and general silhouette makes it look too chunky. So, sorry Ducati, no thank you.

Of course a look in the flash and a test ride may change all that. But from first impressions.... meh

  13. I’m not sure that it is integrated GPS, we may be being mislead or certainly need clarification.
I think the dash is capable of reading from a smartphone, so unless you are connected it wont work. Hence the smartphone holder.
Similar to apple car play / Android etc. My wife’s new Audi has similar, no Nav built in but connects and uses Waze, Google Maps, all sorts. Cost as an add on to Audi. — Free.
If it is the same but only using sygic, there’s no real $$$ value attached, just a feature.

  15. Come on the New MS V4 has been touched by the ugly stick - but the GS and KTM have been beaten repeatedly...

  17. My favourite Multi was my 2013 PP with full Termi. I liked it so much I had two of them instead of upgrading to a 1200 DVT in 2015/6. Currently on a 1260 with full Termi, but not fully in love with my machine. Although with the up-map the throttle is better than standard, it's still not as good as my 2013 bike. Having ridden a V4 Streetfighter I was desperately hoping that the new bike was going to be the answer to my dreams, but alas not. All I want from Ducati is an upright bike that weighs under 200kgs, has oodles of torque, something between 130-150hp, and an instant throttle response (like it was on my 2008 1100s MTS). Maybe I should buy a 2013PP, replace the Skyhook with full mechanical Ohlins and ride off into the distance on a bike that I really loved to both look at, and ride? I'm sorry Ducati, but I don't care how much tech you offer me, unless you shed some weight, bring back the torque, and improve the throttle response, sadly I won't be buying a new Multistrada.

  18. Stop comparing the weight and power to a model that was released (originally) 2 years ago and homologated a year before that... come on...You can't blame any manufacturer for not finding 25hp and loosing 20KG now, the regulatory restrictions placed on them are tighter than ever and the Euro 5 standards are a LOT tighter than Euro 4. On top of this, the 1260 engine lifespan was designed to take them to Euro 4, this one STARTS at Euro 5 and has to take them to at least Euro 6 or 7 without suddenly loosing 20HP, if anything it probably is easily capable of 180-190HP but the manufacturer has a long term marketing strategy to consider which is that when they get to Euro 6 they can use some buffer they have to 'keep' the power figure.

Seriously, don't hate the player, hate the game... go and buy a current 1260 if you prefer the look, but it's naïve to just look at headline figures and make statements without considering more that the thin end of the wedge you are looking at.

The thing that has intrigued me is the direct mount shock, something that even KTM have gone away from, and something that was considered a budget bike thing, everything is effected by it, chain pull, rising rate with pillions so perhaps they have done something clever with the damping to compensate. Also I've noticed they are following the fashion of people like Triumph in pulling the front axle forward of the fork line, seeing more bikes do that now.

  19. Just back from taking a 2020 KTM Super Duke GT for a test ride with all the optional electronic gizmos activated. WOW !!!! What idiot said V twins were finished !!! Still smiling, that engine is absolutely brilliant and stupid fast (175bhp and 141nm of torque at 9.5k rpm), pulls like a train from any gear and any rpm, the mid range grunt was addictive as with most big V twins, and so were the third gear power wheelies in comfort mode!. QS, blipper and fuelling is superb, with pops and snarls on the over run, (I would still fit the optional Akra can though for maximum giggles) weather protection was good, no wind buffeting (yay!). Very comfy heated seats and grips worked as they should, the rear tyre was a 190 section Pirelli Angel GT which felt very planted.
Now granted it won't win any beauty contests (but definitely neither will the V4 Multi for that matter) but its growing on me and looks menacing in black. It had all the same kit as the V4 Multi (apart from the VW Golf adaptive cruise control) but did have the excellent semi active WP Apex suspension with a remote preload adjuster. I was offered it brand new for a discounted £15k but I know there is an updated 2021 model due early next year based on the beast 3.0 180bhp Super Duke R at £17,500 (with all the optional electronics no doubt a bit more) and will run on a 200 rear section tyre probably a Battleaxe S22 or Metzler MM9R, also it will have updated frame, electronics, suspension, an updated larger TFT and Brembo Stylema calipers.

What happened to the semi active Ohlins and Stylema's you fitted to your other premium models Ducati, not good for all that off road riding people will do (yeah right) ?

So now I'm in a situation, keep my 2016 DVT PP (1260 is more of the same and still silly expensive even secondhand) and wait to see if Ducati make a proper road focused sports tourer or just get the KTM and enjoy it? I have to admit I'm leaning towards the KTM as it was very impressive, made me grin, and appears at this time to tick all my boxes the new Multi doesnt.

  20. Wait til January when KTM knock £5k off it before buying a new one.

Much as they make some very good bikes, KTM's pricing and discounting policy would make me shy away from buying a new one.
