I've used a borrowed Motolug SE to get me to/from 2 Trackdays this week and it is brilliant. It takes 10 mins, max, to assemble and get the bike strapped down, and about the same to do it in reverse. It breaks down into pieces, the longest of which is the middle channel which folds double to make a piece which is about 30" x 8" x 8" and weighs maybe 30kg, and the next biggest pieces are the wheels which are 10", each attached to a piece of 12" x 3" x 3" tube, which weigh approx 15kg each. I was so impressed I have ordered an SE+ (can be retro-converted to a 2 bike trailer with an optional kit) and am putting my Dave Cooper 2 bike trailer up for sale.
Just thought I would update the thread with my Motolug experience after having bought my own a couple of months ago. The trailer system is a v good design, but which in my case was somewhat spoiled by poor finish and poor after sales service. The trailer parts have not been finished properly and have lots of sharp edges which have cut me several times. More seriously, one of the edges on the front wheel retaining assembly was so sharp that it sliced a chunk out of the bike's front tyre, meaning it has had to be replaced. I have notified Motolug of this and they have refused to pay for a new tyre, claiming that it is my fault. Also, if, like me, you have to take the 10" wheel option at extra cost because they've run out of 8" wheels, you may well find that you need a new higher towing iron (again at additional cost) or else the ramp doesn't reach the ground and you can't load the bike unless you're on a steep slope. This issue is not mentioned in the instruction manual but instead is on a page buried in a sub-menu in the bowels of their website, which is pretty shoddy tbh. Finally, parts of the number plate light fell off, although they did eventually send a replacement part after several times of asking. The woman you deal with there is pretty unfriendly on the phone and when problems arise she doesn't always read emails properly meaning you constantly have to repeat/re-explain things. It also seems she prefers to argue the toss with and try to pass blame onto the customer in order to save a few quid rather than try to maintain their goodwill. Thankfully I noticed the slice that the sharp edge of the wheel retainer assembly made in my front tyre but if I hadn't then I could easily have suffered a blow out on track, and I am still £70 out of pocket. Sadly, their good name and scruples are obviously worth less than that. I'd still recommend the trailer to someone who needs one which will pack away into a small space but just don't expect anything but surly, blame-shifting and argumentative after-sales "service" if something goes wrong.
I’ve had a motolug for a few years and agree with the comments about quality of finish and the ramp height with 10” wheels, although a small piece of board underneath provides a workaround. I’ve just brought my ramp in from the shed with a view to stripping the bits off of it, and then blasting then powder coating. Ill file the edges a tad too. As a workhorse it does everything you expect, it’s handy, tows really well and stows away really small. It fits in the back of my wife’s Honda Jazz! Great bit of kit that could be so much better
