1260 Ducati Multistrada 1260 V4 !! 190hp

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by victit, Jul 9, 2019.

  1. Followed one up one of the Alps passes a few month back, thought about passing him (German guy I was talking to later) just to realise he was held up by his much slower mate on an S1r. The PP 1260 was handy on the hairpins. Not bad for a stretched bike. I was on a 1200 tractor btw..
It seems that motorcycles are going the same way as cars. Ford Fiesta for example, starts small gets bigger and heavier..

  2. Bit like people...

  3. I didn't buy the 1260 for its looks. I would have gone for a Thruxton if I wanted something pretty. The 1260 s is remarkably capable is the V4 multi any better?

  4. Here is the spec sheets at a glance. B12540F9-1F66-4C29-9E65-D5968D37BE1C.png E701B4EF-C006-4051-9C25-C972E40AD716.png
Fractionally llonger wheelbase but the 19” front might make up some of that. Otherwise they are quite close on paper. As we all know, they could be worlds apart to ride tho!

  5. I agree with that. It’s made me consider other manufacturers as well. I’ll be test riding a KTM and even a Kawasaki come the spring.

You spend all that money developing a V4 engine and then put it in an off roader. That’s essentially what this latest release is. It’s bonkers. I have a single cylinder Husqvarna 250 for off road. That’s as heavy a machine as I’d want off road.

  6. I purchased the 1260 Pikes Peak as a replacement for a Panigale.
    Enough said.

  7. You can imagine the Ducati boardroom right now.......

So we’ve developed an amazing engine,
We already have a class leading Multistrada that nearly everyone likes. Let’s put the two together.
    WHO SAID  ??????
Don’t bother asking the customers what they want, they don't matter, we know best. Remember the good old days of BRITISH LEYLAND. :upyeah:

  8. I've open this thread with much much bigger expectations ... after this drama look (my opinion) I'll stick with my lovely dvt.

  9. That’s a complete no brainer. The new model just looks awful, in comparison.

Maybe a different colour scheme, small carbon screen and some other bling might make the new model look a bit better, but it ain’t ever gonna look as good as the last model.

  10. I’ve decided to be really positive......

The akrapovic looks quite nice. :upyeah:

  11. I could almost get it if it was 20kgs lighter, its a Tardis of a bike though, looks smaller on the outside but bigger on the inside?
As a bit of a short arse and owner of a '13 Multi, one thing I'm looking forward to when upgrading to a DVT model is the lower seat height so not impressed they have raised that?
But I'm not going to write it off until I've seen and ridden one in the flesh and you never know in 12mths when I may look to change mine there may be a glut of '20 models that people rushed out to buy and decided they preferred their old one?

  12. That's the spirit.
In that context, I like the rear brake disc on the right which offsets the chain on the left.

  13. On the up side, we might be able to pick up some cheap 55mm sockets! :D

  15. Unless Ducati pulls a rabbit out of their hat in the next few weeks, they will have alienated every new Multistrada sportbike rider.
What a marketing blunder so far and will be up-there with the New Coke. :splat:

  16. I expected this with 200 HP.

I expected the above and perhaps this

    We got this?

The BMW S1000XR team must be popping Champagne corks right now.

  17. If they’d given us anything like the first one my order would be in.
All it’s done for me so far is push me to look at all the competitors, I thought I’d moved to Ducati until I finished my biking career... perhaps not now, KTM looking more interesting........

For me they’ve got 6mths to sort this mess out.
I know that sounds dramatic but I wouldn’t give this v4 a second glance against any of the 1260 models, perhaps not even the 950. It’s just not visually premium.

  18. I noticed today that P&H have the V4 Multistrada S advertised on e-bay.
I assume this means they might not have converted all their deposits / allocation into actual customer committed orders.
That in itself is telling. Usually you can't get a look in for a new model, as customers rush to get them.

  19. Hi John,
    Agreed, and with @Steelboss also.
Who in their sound mind (looking to modernize their Multi) would put a deposit for this?
I'm not affected in the short term as I recently purchased a 1260 Pikes Peak which I consider the best bike I've ever owned.
However, If I had an older model, I'd be stumped for a replacement and would be searching elsewhere.

Ducati needs to come up with a 200+ HP SuperSport before year end.
Don’t stop there. Electronic Ohlins, Marchesini Forged, Carbon Termi and Red/White livery, Nav and modern electronics also.
Oh! Stuff that double sided swing-arm somewhere never to be seen again.

  20. I was so looking forward to the new V4 , money being squirrelled away for the last couple of years in readiness, but now it’s here ,it’s just not floating my boat.
So yesterday when a survey via email came from Ducati regarding the V4 multi came to me ,I had to respond in relatively negative terms. Shame really.
