1260 Ducati Multistrada 1260 V4 !! 190hp

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by victit, Jul 9, 2019.

  1. I was so looking forward to the new V4 , money being squirrelled away for the last couple of years in readiness, but now it’s here ,it’s just not floating my boat.
So yesterday when a survey via email came from Ducati regarding the V4 multi came to me ,I had to respond in relatively negative terms. Shame really.

  2. I might choose it over anything from BMW, KTM or Yamakawasuki, but definitely not over any existing Multistrada.
And an unexpected Brucie bonus - my 1260 has become an instant classic collectable!

  3. I’d love to see the reaction to the survey at Ducati. They’ll be expecting loads of positive feedback, and will be quite excited to see what everyone thinks, but in reality they’ll see that a large percentage of us really aren’t impressed. If there is a sportier version coming, they really need to make that clear RIGHT NOW, before they lose a lot of potential sales.

If I was coming to this market now, the V4 wouldn’t get a look in. My money would go to BMW for the S1000XR.

  4. Still suspect they will sell every one they make and then some.

The re focussing of the Multi means they were aiming it at a slightly different market anyway.

  5. Or someone who had placed a deposit saw the finished bike and decided its been bashed too much with the ugly stick!!

  6. All the laughed at GS riders with the pristine bikes, branded kit and squared off tyres must be dancing for joy that they are joined by a new addition to the Waitrose adventurer set :D:D

  7. Ducati will be rubbing their hands with glee when the orders come flooding in from all the disillusioned GS owners jumping ship , they'll have to increase production of matching Goretex riding kit, oh the money they'll make, it's win win :bucktooth:.
Of course once said owners realise there's a chain they have to maintain, there'll be a glut of used V4's to be snapped up :joy:.

  8. I think you could be right, countries with different conditions/terrain/roads could well be more excited that us Brits by the prospect of the V4 MTS. I'm sure it will do well globally and quite possibly do OK here. However, I think they do risk alienating a significant number of current loyal customers. Time, and a test ride, will tell.

  9. Agree. The UK road networks are predominantly "metalled" and you know what to expect most of the time. Europe and Scandinavia tend to switch
back and forth from tarmac to loose chippings a lot more frequently and without much prior indication when out in the sticks.
I stopped riding my sports bikes on the street after a while, when living in southern Sweden and used a KTM adventure R for my road fix.

  10. I don't think there is much doubt the V4 is aimed squarely at the GS buyers. Its a big market to tap in to.

  11. Does anyone here know the percentage of Multistrada Enduro sold vs the road version?
One this note, I just texted my pal who's the Ducati specialist at my dealer asking him: "how many enduros has he preped vs regular Multis over a year or so"?

  12. Maybe it’s aimed more at the emerging Indian & Chinese wealthy off roaders?

  13. 100% this. The new bike appears to be a direct replacement for the Enduro, but there’s a huge gap in comparison to the standard model.

I’m still hopeful that Ducati will produce an equivalent 1260PP, but I’m resigned to it being 12 months away.

  14. As much as I enjoy my 1260 PP and would have hoped Ducati would have produced a Corse equivalent in a V4 format, I'm really disappointed with the direction they are taking. However, Ducati have made really good marketing decisions in the past and I'm still hopeful that they will plug the gaping hole they allegedly has left us with so far.

  15. I'd sell em sod all due to scam call centres and COVID

  17. Thinking about it they might just have pulled off a blinder? Its as if they predicted Covid, council budget cuts and worsening road conditions?
We all think we want a road focused tourer, when in fact with the state of our pot hole ridden roads, what we actually need is a more off road machine with a 19" front wheel?

  18. At the risk of stepping on a royal pinky, cuts have to be made to the Highways Agency England to pay for the House of Windsor Endowment Fund.

  19. Well, in Spain we think the same as you, and in the GS bmw forum, neither has passion unleashed, in bmw they already had a spare for the multi if they wanted it, it's called S1000XR, by the way, I have requested a test of the 2021 model, with equipment full and ready to drive 22k euros

  20. Very happy to keep the better adventure bike, and bought a Ducati stablemate for spirited rides and hot weather. Job done.

there has to be 17” front wheel version or some sort of sporty tourer version just around the corner.

I already have a 19” front wheel motorcycle that is super stable, holds a line and will tackle any proper surfaceD road. Also no need to piss about with chain tensioning and lubing a chain. It most definitely is not a sports bike though it does go well imo. The first and second gen Multi 1200s were bloody close on the road to more sporty types though.
This is a big change of direction.
Having already seen used Multi Enduros in a BM dealer (traded for a GS) I dont think genuine heavy use GS types will give this a second look. The reputation for BMers of just rocking up to Tesco in full touring kit and doing 1000miles a year is just a stereo type. It is the Multi riders who go to trade in with more than 5k a year that are a rare breed, probably because most are terrified by the Ducati dealer and the shrp intake of breath “how many miles?” Its not a real adventure bike you know, just to look at..o_O

Not all tourers want to take wife/partner/bit on the side or even a lot of luggage. But something with comfort, performance and sharp handling, without huge weight and bulk is surely in demand? This is is a criticism of all manufacturers, more weight and bulk.
    Just Not Needed.
Cruise, heated grips maybe for variable Alpine temperatures, comfy seat..150ish bhp, a screen that does jot cause buffeting. Up right riding position, compliant quality suspension that can be tuned to rider and roads. Decent looks ff5. Seems a fairly simple formula that manufacturers get further away from.
