Parking Light 1000ds

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Dean Roberts, Dec 1, 2020.

  1. Just a quick one , how is the parking light connector attached on multistrada 1000 ? is it twist Bayonette style ?
it's increadbly difficult to get to and can only just reach it, been trying to remove it and it seems to twist to a loose feeling point like but simply refuses to move.
    thanks

  2. This illustration is from the Owners Manual.

    It just says :
    Parking light
Disconnect the connections (11) from the terminals (fig.62).
Extract the parking light bulb (12) from its seat and fit a new bulb with equal rating.

And the lighting specifications just says : 12V5W Parking light.
    Not much help!

  3. Thanks i checked the manual makes it all seem so easy lol, it's the most difficult bulb i've ever come across on a motorbike.

  4. From the illustration it looks like the bulb is fitted into a socket that has 2 spade terminals for the wires. It may simply be a push fit but it need twisting. Someone will know @finm?

  5. I think you'll find it's just a "rubbery sleeve" affair with lots of surface area to make sure it stays in place. The extraction of same is exarcerbated by the housing being on the motor-driven platform for headlight adjustment which is almost impossible to restrain whilst wriggling simply because you can't get two hands there! By coincidence i'm doing the same job, and have put it off for a week already, just went to look after reading your post and am going to remove headlight tomorrow for fear of damaging something if I persevere while in situ.

  6. Yeh i've removed the windscreen and fairing dash plastic (?) and eventually headlight (although without removing either the headlamp fairing or metal instrament mount it gives no better access) to try and get better access, it's stuck in there tight.
lost skin off my knuckles but no closer to getting it out lol
Wish my old MoT guy was still working he would of let me off with it as an unused light

  7. i've never had to change mine .and i;m in no rush to try. the dip bulb was awkward enough. but doable without a strip out.
going by the pick it just looks like a push fit.

  8. yes, main/dip bulbs are hard enough, sidelight is a push-fit in a sleeve, similar to 1098 etc.

  9. at the moment if i stand at the front of the bike one leg either side of the front wheel i can get my left hand thumb on one side and index finger of right hand on the other thats how little room there is and as you say the reflector inside the headlight moves as you try to pull the switch out . might be that removing the headlight is the only option.

  10. nasty.
some times the heat from the bulb can melt the holder slightly. tried rotating it first just to brake any seal?

  11. It will rotate but doesnt help to loosen it , first bulb on any bike i've owned to beat me lol.

  12. if you are intent on removing in situ you could sparingly work some (usually red) rubber grease into the sleeved area and there's a chance it will then let go - have done this successfully on other Ducati with similar set-up when stubborn. The reason that it won't withdraw despite swivelling is because there is a small lip affair built in which is supposed to be malleable enough to compress during "tugging". Heat gun/hairdryer is another ploy to try..

  13. It's a plastic connector on mine (2004 multistrada 1000ds) dosent look like the picture in the manual just a sold chunky block with ribbed grips on 2 sides

  14. mine plastic also - the race is on! :) (too cold now) I still prefer swapping this sidelight to changing a R/H front indicator on a Lancia Thema 832.

  15. Lol picture me with hammer and completly smashed Front fairing but working light lol The winner :D
mine lives out in the cold so have been working on it outside since my new v strom 1050xt took over my storage room :)

  17. good idea with the instruments , ran mine as everyday ride through 3 winters thats why it's a bit of a mess now. multi 1000 is a great bike though pretty perfect handling and engine just electrics and engine paint let it down

  18. I'm also a late-comer to this bike, have done 3 or 4 winters now, it flies by so quickly. I thoroughly agree - it's a massively understated bike, it has some flaws but these are outweighed by the overall fun factor. A bit eccentric, I have 3 now but hopefully about to sell one soon.

  20. Got the headlight off after removing headlamp fairing and finaly after skimmed knuckles got the bulb out. it's plastic not rubber which is probably why it was so tight.
Now do i fix the light and replace or keep on pulling parts off the bike?
