2021 Bmw S1000r....that Headlamp???

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by Poucher, Nov 30, 2020.

  1. My S1000R was a great bike, easy fast enough and certainly didn't feel slower than the Superduke which has way more power, just delivers and winds on different obviously, Superduke just ups and goes, s1000r keep pinned, different strokes you know

Ever so slightly on the small side for me vs the Superduke, but not that bad. Didn't miss a beat, quick shifter was great and everything worked well, just that the ddc suspension was at its limit when pushed on as I'm fairly heavy at 95kg although I believe you can get uprated aftermarket

I'm not sure I like the look of the new ones headlight, bit disappoined but I'll take a look in the flesh, bet it flies and it'll be sorted in the handling department.

Problem is that I kinda want a gen 3 Superduke with full akrapovic or the streetfighter v4.....just waiting for ducati to stop being bastards and throw in a free exhaust then I'll probably jump ;)

  6. Might be a contender for next bike - the headlight is not such an issue as the exhaust collection box. Ugly looking thing, you would think BMW could tidy that up without too much effort.

  7. My mates just bought a s1000r M package after owning a previous iteration of it. Says it’s tame compared with his previous S but may well be due to him in the running in phase. From memory you can’t just put a slip on very easy as it’s a whole system to change. But yeah I don’t like the zost.

  8. My GF has just bought herself a new S1000XR, 165 bhp. It is a great bike. You can just change the end can in the same way as any other bike.
Comparing the servicing costs of the S1000RR with the other S1000 models is just stupid.
My 939 Supersport was due an 18k mile service and I was quoted £1000 from a UK Ducati dealer. Doubt that her XR nor my R1250RS will cost that much for any service.
Both BMWs came from new with a full tank of fuel, her Monster 821 came with enough fuel to get her the mile to the nearest petrol station.

  10. My old MT-10 SP

Yamaha did a good job of hiding the exhaust collection box by adding this little panel. I wonder why BMW could not do something similar for a high end bike.

I seem to remember something about Euro 5 imposing more limits and now the whole exhaust is a complete unit to stop people making changes. But I may be wrong about that.

  11. This was my understanding from the conversation I had with my mate during our brief fuel/refreshment stop.

It would seem that this may not be accurate?

  12. My gen2 RR was around £160 for it's annual service. I kept it 6 years and the relatively low cost of the servicing was the only reason I kept using the dealer. I had a R as a courtesy bike, and it was quite a bit slower than the RR. If it had the RR engine spec, I'd probably have bought one.

  13. You are wrong. You can change the rear silencer as it is a standard bolt on item.
Euro 5 is a red herring as it has no application for an individual. It is something that manufacturers must comply with to sell bikes in Europe. There is no law that says that you cannot remove the orange reflectors from the fork legs as soon as you own the bike, but they are a Euro 5 requirement.

  14. I am not an expert on this at all. I watched the 44 Teeth vid - see at 14.01 - and there is mention of Euro 5 rules that make it harder to to mess with the exhaust after purchasing the bike, rather than actually being illegal to change it - that is where I got my info from about the exhaust.
