What Have They Done Now?

Discussion in 'Monster' started by mrH, Dec 2, 2020.

  1. Just watching the new Monster launch

One thing is sorted, I won't be buying another Monster again. It may just be me, but if I wanted a Suzuki or other Japanese naked I would get one. But I didn't want one, hence my 1200s is still in the garage.

The technological advances and weight loss may be tempting, but it looks like Ducati is just aiming for a different market.
I thought the V4 Multistrada thread was disparaging enough, but I think this may be on a par when people see it.

Clearly this is just my disappointed opinion, others are available!

I guess I'm not ready for the new Ducati designs.

Oh well, no new Monster or Multi for me :broken_heart:

  2. Agreed. Very happy to have bought a 1200r.
Ducati are letting the bean counters have too much influence. That new Monster. It does not look like a Ducati.

  3. I have an 821 and will not be changing. It does look very similar to the Suzuki 650.

  6. It seems that they have followed the herd ,i am most definitely keeping my R now ,i was sort of hoping that there might have been a 1200FE ,with maybe 175bhp ,quick shifter etc ,,it seems i will be keeping my money in the bank .

  7. Even though I’ve had a pig of a time trying to sort the carbs out I still prefer the original concept.

  8. 1200 or 1260 to follow at a later date, or is the Streetfighter supposed to replace the larger capacity versions?

  9. Take the stickers off the tank and you wouldn't know what it was (and I'm on my third Monster) my first guess wouldn't be Ducati...

  10. Sticking with my monster 1200, does everything I need and looks great.

  11. Bite your tongue Sir :)
It does look a bit like the older Brutale's.

  12. Even a job to tell it's a V-twin!

  13. it's probably a better bike in every way except the restricted flow from the cat, but it looks terrible. I hate the audi indicators, and the crappy plastic bolt ons. no thanks.

Ditching the trellis frame to save 2kg: quite frankly i've had bigger shits; they shouldn't have bothered. They should have saved that approach for a baby street fighter.

  14. has to be good for the value of used Monsters ... because this is a design disaster

  15. I will buy another. But not of that year going forward until it fails and the new owners bring the trellis back

  16. Looks like a Suzuki SV650

  17. You could always go the Scrambler route :)

  18. 6.5Kg tbf, they saved 2KG on the swingarm.

I don't disagree otherwise, I know there's been a lot of knocking of new bikes recently but this is an own goal

  19. Does look on the photos that you can’t remove the rear pegs to save more weight which a lot of people like to do. Not sure that any kind of side luggage could be fitted with the rise of the exhausts. As some people have said some bikes look a lot different when you can walk around them.

  20. Its the same on the Scrambler range.

The design is more “mainstream” and that means they’ll sell more than they do now.
