Hyperstrada 821 Error Code

  1. Did you ride it to Riders? Not a joke!

What I mean is - if the bike works well enough to ride, I find it very odd that Riders diagnostics computer can't talk to your ECU. I haven't yet taken my Hyper to Louigi - have you asked whether they have the diagnostic capabilities so you can avoid the £100ph charges? Riders Bristol always seems too Harley orientated to me...

  2. Hi, Yes i rode it to Riders Bridgwater, The bike runs perfect once the error light goes out. i have to insert the ignition key numerus times before the bike error light goes out. I'd spoken to a Riders, Moto Rapido and Luigi moto who seem to think its the ignition barrel so my plan was to take the bike to Riders and get them to check this out before spending £200 on a lock set but unfortunately this didn't work out due to the bike not talking to their equipment. They said it could still be the barrel but didn't advise ordering parts until they came confirm this which could work out mega expensive. Started talking ECU's etc etc etc

  3. Ducati, in their wisdom(?), have integrated the immobiliser antenna into the ignition barrel for your model, so if the antenna fails you do indeed need a new ignition barrel. You may also want to change the tank and seat locks so that hey are all on the same key.
However, you should not need to replace the ECU. For the I2K-2 immobiliser system fitted to the Hyper series the transponders can be removed from the current keys and fitted into the new keys.

  4. Thank you. So a complete lock set which includes barrel, fuel cap, pannier locks, 2 keys and a key code card could still be my best option?

  5. Jeez. Panniers as well. That's gonna get expensive. The transponders should swap from your old keys so you'd keep the same code card, although I didn't think that model had a code card.

  6. £200 total

  7. Hmm. The Ducatii service bulletin on the immobiliser systems shows the 2013 Hyperstrada as having the I2K-2 system with black keys and no card. The earlier Hypermotards have the IRC system with a red key, 2 black keys and a code card.

  8. ....all of which should have been explained by the Dealer. Perhaps this is the biggest problem (as per the other - Glasgow - thread) - that they are only dealers and can only swap 'modules' instead of having the technical expertise and experience required...
    Rant over

  9. I did give them the vin number and it's definitely a 2013 821cc Hyperstrada:( oh how I wish I'd kept my 1199S

  10. I had a similar problem with my 821 they do suffer with weak starter motors and the throttle unit can play up which wouldn’t give full power and throw up some fault codes.

  11. When it starts and it does turn over quick it's never misses a beat and runs perfect.

  12. Just for information I've found the fault and it was the sleeve around the ignition barrel that contains the immobilser antenna, unfortunately this part isn't available separately so I have to purchase a complete lock set unless anyone knows of one for sale?
Thank you everyone for your advice.
    Merry Christmas and stay safe.
