I'm gonna kill the developer of this shit software, it's utter gash. Is there any other alternative application out there that works with the Garmin Zumo line? I just wanna plan some trips, not operate on a goats testicle.
You could try MyRouteApp. The free version is okay but not fully functional so you need the paid for version to load a route direct to your Garmin. I didn’t get on with it and persevered with Garmin which I can now work with well enough for my needs thanks largely to the patience of a forum member. Andy
Basecamp was, until recently worth persevering with. There tended to be something of a Eureka moment, was for me anyway but then I've been a Garmin user since the late 90's and used Mapsource prior to Basecamp. However, as Andy suggests, MyRouteApp is the new kid on the block and works very well with Garmins. It's very recently had some further improvements which has, in my eye, brought even closer to Basecamp in terms of what it can do with the apparent addition of the ability to add way-points along a route rather than just shaping nodes (I've only got so far as having a play with this new feature, no real-world, on the road experience). You can also add delays to these for scheduling stops. Admittedly this is with the fully featured paid version, not sure about the free offering.
https://www.myrouteapp.com/ - 5 mins in and I've already done what I wanted to do that took me 1 hour of fiddling with Basecamp on, and even then, Basecamp couldn't find the addresses I was looking for. Thank you @Android853sp and @Bumpkin
Glad to hear that you're getting on with MyRouteApp, it's certainly more intuitive than Basecamp and for the paid for version offers far more in the way of functionality to boot. You never need to update the mapping or have 4GB+ of mapping data taking up valuable space on your laptop. Your routes are available anywhere you can get an internet connection as well as on your mobile. You can plan routes on your PC and then loading them onto your XT from your phone using the Garmin Drive app. You can plan routes, at a pinch, on your phone. Garmin Street View can be used to check out roads, scenery and locations of petrol stations, hotels, restaurants as well as researching meeting places etc. The HERE mapping and routing algorithm is the same as used by Garmin or as close as makes no difference. I'm not sure what the annual subscription is these days but worth it IMHO. Once subscribed there are occasional offers for the lifetime subscription which is usually €299, at the start of the first lock-down it was €99 so I snapped one up.
Would rather not use Basecamp at all. MRA now makes that possible as far as I'm concerned, just plan and export as a GPX on my phone from there transfer to my Garmin Zumo XT via Bluetooth. The only use for Basecamp I can now see is collating a complete multi-day/multi-route trip into one file for distribution to a tour group.
You can import from kurviger.de also directly into your XT. Kurviger supports several export formats. Like .gpx
You can set a share group in MRA, so obsoleting basecamp, which imho tries to serve too many markets and thus fails, MRA is more focussed.
