One I’ve not ever thought about even though I’ve been riding bike’s all my life. Are crash helmets all the same size shell and the size is made up in lining? Reason I ask is I purchased a new lid online during the first lockdown. I was in between sizes. Due to past lids of a different make I went for a medium. But It’s a tad to big! I have now ordered a small lining for it. But it wasn’t until the order was done I thought about this.
There are usually 2 size shells. More for some makes. Generally more than one size can fit in the shell. So maybe a smaller size set of pads will help you. Also, there are different shapes from round to medium oval, to full oval. Or something close to that. Plenty of info online if you search. Some manufacturers and or sellers even state what shape each model is besides it's size.
What Rex said. Very few manufacturers make one size nowadays, most do 2,here and there more than 2. If you go one size down on the liner it should be fine.
Shoei offer three thicknesses of lining/cheek pads for some of their helmets. My Neotec II was supplied with the middle thickness as standard and as the L was too small, I decided to go XL with the thicker set of cheek pads. Fits a treat. Andy
Just for the record if anyone has this problem. For me buying a small size lining to replace the medium done the job for me
I still have a HJC RPHA 11 (in XL) that was a bit tight, so bought the XXL liner and that solved the problem The new AGV K6 comes in 4 different shell sizes covering the following - XS - S - MS - ML - L - XL - XXL
I like the Shark Spartan Carbon range of helmets. I think they come in 2 shell sizes and they have 4 different sizes of cheek pads and skull caps.. Just checked they have 5 sizes of cheek pads.
I have a 3xl. Still too tight. I have an oval because my head is shaped like the head on the creature from Aliens... I think I need a medium Oval instead. Or a 4xl as if they made them that large.
