  1. What a clip, great find and very enjoyable to see Animal in his prime before the booze, drugs and hookers all took there toll on him . But hay at least he had a great time no doubt. :upyeah::upyeah:

  2. Carter Beauford is one of my absolute favorite drummers, open hand style with epic Hi hat patterns. and lets not forget Jeff Porcaro,

  3. Steve White's first episode of 'The Art Of Drumming' program was on Channel 11 last night, just in case nobody else has mentioned it. There are three more episodes.

I think all but one of the artists that featured were/are proper drummers......it should be obvious to most people if they know about drumming who the odd one out was.....

He was the one raving over Phil Collins drumming In The Air Tonight; which IMO is pretty crap......it's just thumping the drums with both sticks at the same time.

Most of the newer breed of drummers seem to think that everything revolves around volume and speed over style and is usually performed using a basic Left Right Left Right Left Right with no sign of anything else, not even holding the sticks properly.

None of them know how to do a proper roll (LLRRLLRRLLRR) let alone a five, seven or nine stroke roll.
Likewise they wouldn't know what a Flam; a Drag; Triplet or a Feint is.

A proper drummer would be able produce a more complicated rudiment like RLRRLRLLRLRRLRLL (who recognises that?)

I could also do that with double bass drums not just the sticks; but then I tended to play rather like Ian Paice because I was brought up listening to big band stuff and being tutored by a drummer from a trad jazz band; so when doing rock numbers I would play around with the basic beat I was doing.

Sadly I sold my kits a few years ago for the same reason I recently sold my Harley.....COPD.

  4. Lee Harris from the band ‘Talk Talk’ was part of our moped gang back in the late 70s. So my vote goes to him !

  5. Right off to watch this programme, thanks.

Saw a lot of Whitesnake very early 80’s, agreed a great drummer.

  6. Following in your late famous father's footsteps or hands for that matter is no easy gig for Jason, but i think he nails it.

  7. It's Gerald the Gorilla as once seen on Not the Nine o'clock news.

  8. Too deep and controversial a subject for me to comment on Andy, all I will say is that their Mum loved each and every one of them, and also.. Nested Tuplets.

  9. Have a listen to Jack DeJohnette's work

Not just a different approach to drumming .... it's a whole new world !
..... but don't take my word for it , check it out .
He always knows exactly where the beat is at ..... he just chooses not to hit it

Also , Jaki Liebezeit from Can .... stunning , and so unique !

And for any drum fans seeking a lovely laid-back groove ?
Bernard Purdie and his legendary " half-time shuffle "

"Babylon Sister " for example ... just off the top of my head .
