748 Healtech On 748 1994

  1. Hi All
    First time im in here.
I have a super detalied 748 with EVR big bore 853, year 1994.
I would like to hear about Healtech Quickshift.
Is it possible to mount it on such old bike i have when i didn't see it on the list by Healtech homepage. 2001 748R is on the list and i think my bike have the same plugs as offered for the 748R.
Some says that the gearbox will be damage over time, i don't use the bike for race on track just in public:cool: Some comments on that?

  2. I personally had horrible experiences with the healtec on my 848, just never got it setup right and ended up removing it. I had some really scary false neutrals 3/4th gear and then afterwards started getting issues where if I was too gentle on downshift it would just jump out of gear every now and again, which was observed by a friend who had the issue while riding it.

translogic is the way I think I should have gone, others have had good results with it.

  3. Hi Phill
Thanks for comments, then i have to go back to old shifting rod:worried:

  4. I had the opposite experience to that above. I have Healtech quick shifters on my 2000 748R and track 2006 CBR600RR. Easy to install, precise shift. I don't know why Phil is referring to downshifting - the Healtechs are upshift only. Perhaps that's why he had a problem!!

Don't know about using on a '94 model though - I would email Healtech first to check compatibility.

  5. Why would you want a quick-shifter for road use?

  6. Most of the guys I saw in the Swedish paddocks used Cordona units on the older Ducati's. They seemed to be preferred installation.
They have a distributor in Brøndby too.

  7. Safety/fun

  8. Thanks, take a look on that type

  9. I will try to contact Healtech, thanks

  10. I find clutchless shifts in both directions on my 916cc 748 (with original close ratio box) seamless and smooth so see a quick shifter of no value on the road. Having done a few track days they can be fun and beneficial at the track but i still wouldn't go to the trouble of fitting one for that reason the box changes very nicely in both directions without the clutch

  11. Depends how often you track the bike and what Group you are in. Bit like fitting a race slipper clutch/rcs19 etc etc if you are after lap times.

  12. Nope... I'm fully aware it's a quickshifter and not a blipper.....!!!

My comments refer to the fact my gearbox was damaged by some big grinding gearbox false changes on the healtec and then the result was downshifts that would jump out of gear occasionally.

The issue with the 848 Evo may not exist on the 748, you can calibrate it easily on the 848 because the bike turns the coils off after 10 seconds of ignition on without starting, which means you have to run the bike on the stand which was tricky. It may be just me that didn't get on with it, but I've read generally 50/50 on them, those that love them love them, I personally think a Translogic is the better buy.

  13. I am by no means an expert with after market quick shifters, I do however have an 853 in a 748R rolling chassis which I rode on track for several years. What suited me was just the RS reverse shift lever as I felt a quick shifter added nothing to my experience or my times. I now ride a Panigale V4 and the quick shifter is a revelation and adds to the V4 experience. In hindsight, would I have put a quick shifter on the 853 ? Absolutely no. The 853 is entirely different in character and more like my 1098R which I most definitely do not use a quick shifter, no point when you can do everything in 2nd and 3rd gear :D Andy

  14. I would second this, I rode my 848 at Oulton without a missed shift all day without a quickshifter, once I got used to it, it was fairly smooth tbh! The quickshifters on the new bikes are just so clever in terms of working with the ECU to predict what is going to happen with the engine, but on old big twins, just a firm foot and it changes fine IMO.

  15. Okay guys
I have spoked with a quick shift dealer here in Denmark who has contacted Healtech and they haven't got a system to 748 unless it's an R model. I can't get an answer why!!

  16. The Healtech website only offers an option for the 748 from MY 2000. Not sure why that would be restricted to the R but certainly not available for the earlier model years. Andy

  17. probably related to the ECU, didn't it change around 2000?

  18. Wait, you guys are saying it's possible to not use the clutch at all for shifting on the track? And this does no harm to the gearbox?

  19. The latest generation of electronics allow for clutchless changes up and down. I have it on my V4 but most definitely do not want it on my 748R or my 1098R. The gearbox is way too vulnerable if you don’t get the dwell set up properly. Andy
