1260 Timing Issue?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by iiiDutchiii, Feb 12, 2021.

  1. I had a fault very similar to the one you describe, in the middle of overtaking, or accelerating, it seemed that it had a power failure and was drowning, many attempts and investigations from the official Ducati service, and it turned out to be an AISS valve, which comes to Being a kind of ERG for diesel cars, it stayed closed when it wanted and gave the fault, If you put the computer and reset it, it works for a while, but it gets stuck again

  2. I will put my money on the spark plug leads.
I had the same problem and it had no faults logged, not the exhaust valve, and finally got the solution from one of our american inmates. There is a thread about it in here somewhere.

  3. Just found this and wonder if it may have something to do with it:

Symptoms of A Bad Mass Air Flow Sensor
The mass air flow sensor (MAF) data is vital for fuel delivery control. The amount of air entering the engine through the air filter is going to fluctuate depending on how fast the engine is running.

If you push down on the accelerator, the engine will need more fuel to increase the rate at which the pistons are moved. In order to increase speed, more fuel and air is needed. The amount of fuel must be kept in line with the amount of air coming in. This is why the mass air flow sensor is important. It must be able to accurately measure the air flow and send this information to the ECU in real time.

  4. I had my exhaust value replaced recently, my symptoms were that the bike wouldn't pass 5k revs no matter how hard or steady you tried . Turns out that the cable had frayed and sticking.

  5. Have the bike booked in with Moto Rapido first thing tomorrow - here’s hoping my wallet doesn’t take a pounding!!!

  6. This is the AISS valve, that I comment a couple of messages above was the one that failed me

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  7. So the bike is fixed! And well done laava who suggested what the fault was....it was indeed a spark plug lead failing. The guys at Moto Rapido diagnosed it quickly this morning given it didn’t trigger any warning light on the dash. Twice I’ve been to these guys and while they are a little expensive both times they sorted the bike without issues. Thanks to all for the advice and offers of help - much appreciated

  8. Do you know which lead it was ? :)

  9. I bet it was the centre plug on the horizontal cylinder?

  10. My bottom one on the front pot gave issues, it'd be interesting to know :)

  11. Yep was the bottom at the front. They said it was corroded! I use my bike it all weathers....except snow! Noticed over the 2.5yrs there are bits that don’t hold up well to regular use in winter months. Like the pool of water that sits at the bottom of my suspension spring that I noticed is rusting!

  12. But they did lend me a 1260 Enduro which was great fun! Even in the torrential rain this morning!

  13. When I bought my DVT, that same lead was covered in silicone sealer and a mudflap had been fitted to the front mudguard extension, so I guess it's an area that can give problems :) Glad you got sorted out OK.

  14. Glad you got it sorted, I lived with mine for ages before finding out what it could be! Incidentally, it passed the static test, ie, checking it's resistance.

  15. Hi again guys. So I bought the Healtech exhaust valve eliminator for my 2018 Multi 1260s. Can anyone help me on where this connects under the seat? It’s all pretty compact in there as the pic

  16. Lift up the white connector, it's tucked down the side of the frame underneath this.
Here's mine with it fitted, it's best to pull the connector up a bit so you can get to it. I also added a bit of tape as the wires seemed a bit exposed.

  18. Yup, I lived with mine for quite a while. Mine was the center plug wire on the vertical cylinder. It was most likely damaged while I was removing it for the valve clearance check.

  19. So I managed to install the Healtech as the pic. Bit of a faff getting the connector up from the frame! The instructions mention to check that the valve is in the open position pulling on the cable. Do I need to do this on the multi? Or is it I the open position by default anyway?

  20. Yes it’s a bit of a struggle to get to.
If the valve is open then you wouldn’t hear it cycle when you turn on the ignition. A sort of swish swish noise.

if you take the end can off again you can see if the valve is open. Or you might be able to look down the exhaust with a torch.
