Anyone Interested In Specially Machined Parts?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Sam1199, Feb 12, 2021.

  1. A mate of mine is involved with an engineering company. They’ve made quite a few bits for Triumph and other specialist manufacturers and Rolls Royce I believe. Obviously with the lockdown things are a bit slow at the moment and we have been talking about what specialist parts Ducati owners would like fabricating.

What would you like to see machined up?

Not one offs but the kind of thing lots of us could use. For example a really good ( maybe Titanium) 55mm rear wheel socket. I had thought of the 55mm rear wheel nut in Titanium as well, I don’t know if the Chinese ones on eBay are any good but I’m off Chinese produce as much as possible at the moment anyway. Usually UK made equipment is of better quality.

Rear brake discs was another thing that came to mind. One that worked would be good. Preferably not at an eye watering price.

Any thoughts, any suggestions or requirement?

  4. Thought of another, swingarm pivot drifts :upyeah:

  5. Jeez Pete you’ve lost me with that one. I’m afraid I’m not ‘that’ technical. However I’m not doubting your suggestion send more info. The gear puller seems like a really good suggestion. Why do they need to be that expensive, especially for a tool 99.9% of people wouldn’t use that often. However having the right tool makes all the difference when you do need it.

Keep ‘em coming. If we can get things made that help people on here then that’s great.

  6. Bar end fitted brake guard.
Worth a look on some of the race providers eBay pages. Stuff like rearsets, Jack plates, pegs, shark fins, any protection stuff. Have a look at Race Parts

  7. hi mate, take a look at this thread for the pivot drift:

    https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/916-748-996-998-swing-arm-pivot-bolt-tool.31246/

i'm not sure why the puller is so expensive, i can only assume it's because it's one of those things that if you dont have it you're bolloxed,

another one may be a valve lift guage (link below), basically it's just a dti guage on a fixing which fits to the heads, it's used to measure the valve lift when you're doing cam timings, i was wondering if it was possibe to jsut make the fixing and the leg that goes on the end of the dti rather than buying the whole set up. to put it in perspective, a good dti would set you back about 70 quid, but this whole tool is around 300 quid, can't see 230 quid's worth of metal in it...

to be fair, the list of tools is endless, and they cost a fortune from OEM suppliers, i've put another link here showing a set of tools and the prices, i appreciate you started with bling and there's definately a load of that to be sold but selfishly, i would certainly be interested if your mate could do some tools too :upyeah:
