916 916 Seat Unit Hinge

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by RoyB, Jul 9, 2020.

  1. Can anyone show me a photo of how the seat until hinge secures. I have the bracket on the unit and the chassis hinge is all in situ. I even have the rubber bungs. So what have a mislaid pin wise? Help

  2. Have you got the two pins that the rubbers push onto.

  4. Ah ha! That's what I've mislaid then. Many thanks

  5. Just make sure the rubber boots are located correctly or you just might lose a nylon pin like i'd once.

  6. Try and find some alloy ones.

  7. Two small (m5 IIRC) bolts with nylock nuts on my 996.
Proper pins and rubber bandy thing on the 748.
    Makes no difference.

  8. Lightweight and the seat can be removed in 2 minutes without using any tools, may be a homologation thing for weight saving and quick release. In engineering simple is usually the best and most reliable way to do something

  9. I read somewhere in a crash the pins shear and save the hinge or something like that.

I wouldn't mind buying the oe part but £19 for a pair of nylon pins and a rubber bung sounds exorbitant.

  10. I think I have a spare pair of 6. Saved in the last 20 years. I probably keep them than.

  11. If you crash there will be bigger problems than nylon shear pins.
I use bolts and nylocks as it will discourage the opportunist theft.
When using the nylon pins I can easily remove the seat unit in under 15 seconds, - without the key!

  12. Or you might consider selling a set for a fiver eachlol

  13. Still think there’s a reason. Anyway, or just buy them from the dealer or use bolts....
