749 Buying Parts From Eu?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Battleshipgrey, Feb 17, 2021.

  1. Evening all..just asking if anyone has any idea if when buying parts from abroad we will be getting charged import taxes or vat charges or any other charges for that matter.I'm after buying a Brembo Rcs 17 from Italy (through Ebay )for my 749 but am hearing that people are being charged for buying abroad.Has anyone bought parts on here and been hit for charges?..cheers..

  2. It appears to be a real mess at the moment. Sub-£135 the seller is responsible for paying duty to HMRC (for which they have to register). Over-£135, duty is collected by the courier (PO, DHL etc). This has lead to companies in the EU either capping sales to over £135 or not sending to the UK completely.

  3. VAT and import duty are payable on everything coming into the UK. The VAT can be collected by the seller if they register and pay an annual fee to HMRC. The courier has been made responsible for collecting the import duty on behalf of HMRC, for which they add an administration fee for the privilege. There have been instances of the courier trying to collect the VAT twice. It’s a right buggers muddle. Buy from a UK stockist. Andy

  4. Cheers Andy..think i will be taking your advice...the european prices are obv a lot cheaper but i dont want my hat nailing on by HMRC when the goods land..also easier and cheaper to return if there's a problem...thanks agsin

  5. yep, buy from the UK where you possibly can at least until things get ironed out. I saw something where someone had been charge £40 on top of a £50 item, with no explanation.

  6. Shop around, there are several UK stockists. I have used Bike Torque Racing but you’ve got Reactive Parts and Road Race Performance. Andy

  7. Also you now have to be home to accept the delivery -instead of it being placed in the shed or wherever- so that you can make the payment.

So almost the same prices, no convenience, awkward to return & I have no idea how you get the VAT paid refunded but I'm sure it will take ages and won't be easy.

  8. I buy quite a few parts from Europe, my recent experience is that they appear to be being waved straight through customs at the moment without any extra charges being leveled.
I think the customs people have just been swamped by the new reg's.
An alloy front wheel spindle arrived on my doorstep within 48 hours from Germany, I was stunned at the speed it arrived and pleased that there was no more to pay.

  11. I got bitten the first time after Brexit. Bought a dash for the Panigale and didn’t ask the seller to write a different amount on the label. Bastards stung me for £100 on something costing £370. Second time, same seller, I asked him to write £120 as the value and didn’t have to pay anything. From Holland.

  12. Hope you dont do many euro track days, £300 for a carnet now!!

    https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/biking-after-brexit/

Official advice given by the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC), who have partnered with the ACU and Motorsport UK to provide discounted carnets, says that in very simple terms road-legal bikes (so that’s numberplate, V5, tax, MoT, insurance and green card) transported by the owner do not need a carnet while non road-legal bikes (such as track bikes or motocross bikes without numberplates or V5s) will need the document.

  13. There is a different scenario explained elsewhere on the forum. The figures you refer to would apply to an individual. FE are of the opinion, it will cost their customers less than £40 per bike based on a total value of bike and kit of £10,000. Andy

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  14. No duty payable on 99% of goods originating from EU. But Country of Origin (CoO) is the factor used not country were it arrived from. Most Asian duty is 3-5 % but it varies.

VAT is payable by the recipient if the seller is not UK VAT registered.

  15. hi mate I’m in Germany atm, possibly until may, but if you can wait and it’s not too heavy I can bring it back with me the post it to you(if it works out cheaper).

  16. Thank you for all the replies..it looks to be a bit of a minefield at the momentand by the looks of it..some items may slip through and others will have to pay charges..so i think i'm gna call a few places tomorrow and see what sort of price they can do one for...if the prices are getting a bit heavy..i think i gna buy from abroad and take a chance...(uf delivery not too long)..thank you Nostromo for your very kind offer but i've had forks, calipers ,fairings and god knows what else sat in the garage for months..so if i dont attempt to bolt a few bits on soon..its not gna happen..I will post up either way once i get the master cylinder...thanks again everyone..
