1260 Just Bought A 1260s

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by pcn1, Feb 15, 2021.

  1. Sam,
Thanks for the info. Who is doing your seat ? It looks good, and it had crossed my mind to get mine redone to flatten it out with gel etc. I want to sit right back on the seat and not keep sinking forward !
My mate had his done by some guy in Birmingham I think who uses Facebook to advertise. That looked good too.
Mine has the electric fuel cap from new. I'm 6'3" so was wondering if a touring screen would be of benefit later.

Could you do me a favour ? Looks like you have a top box fitted, who's rack adaptor is it and can you upload a picture of what it looks like fitted ?

    Cheers

  2. Contact Alistair at elsemade.com Your old seat is properly remodelled with quality components that make a huge difference. All for under £100 which is more than half the price of an after market seat and way more comfy.

  3. The reupholstery can raise or lower the seat height, depending on your instructions. I got my low seat lowered by reshaping and putting in proper foam and gel, not the cheapest shite Ducati use OE. Expect to spend about £100 all in for custom reupholstery done well. A vast improvement on OE seat.

  4. Please close this thread immediately as it could cause a potential threat to life.....My MTS1200s 2013 has 42000 relatively trouble free miles, and so far I have not test ridden anything I like enough as a replacement. I did not like the DVT engine, not enough character for me, but no doubt the newer chassis , switches, suspension, ergonomics etc is much better than my bike. Now if the 1260 is close to my twinspark in feel and character I have a real problem. I’m very interested, even being out of work since last June, I maybe only need to find about 6K behind the sofa. Maybe if I got another grey one my missus wouldn’t notice. Mine would be due new tyres, chain and sprockets soon, £500 there. Will my wife notice ??? If you don’t see me post again you know she found out what I was thinking.

  5. It’s the standard Ducati rack that the top box just clicks onto, very good.

  6. I have had two Multistrada seats altered by a good chap in Steventon which is just outside Abingdon, his name is Gez Nahoulakian and his number is 07776 528893

if you want to chat to him you can mention Alan with the Ducati seats, he has altered as I say two of mine and now I am sorted, quality work at a reasonable cost.

  7. Did I delete a post? I can’t see anything here and don’t remember, but I probably started to say something about the seat and decided to keep it to myself. I like the stock seat, but I’m used to the planks that most sportbikes come with.

  8. You gave me s nuke for this post! No biggie, just wondered why?

  9. Ah, now I see what you mean. My thumb must’ve hit the nuke icon as I was scrolling - I do most of my forum surfing on my iPad, so I make a touchscreen error once in a while.

As such, it was unintentional and I’ve undone it.

  10. I'm in the exact same situation. Also bought the 1260S recently, and my first impressions were that the seat is awful, and the screen nowhere good enough for my 6ft3. I've fitted Jamie's spacer and I'll take the bike out tomorrow provided it's dry in Kent. Will report back here.

Regarding the seat situation, I've contacted guys at Viking Mortorcycle Seats in Sevenoaks, they are asking £305 for the re-working the rider seat foam with softer density and adding width and height, covering both seat with a high grip material Matt black, and finally have the entire thing look like this (without the Multistrada and DucatiPerformance, just the logo).

Do you guys think it's too much?

  11. In a word YES! I had a Multi rider seat done by them a several years ago and it was OK at first and then it sagged and went lumpy where the gel insert was badly fitted.
I have since used Elite Comfort Seat Motorcycle Memory Foam Inserts at Sussexmotorcycles.com, better than gel pads for rider comfort. (a very odd place and don't let the outside put you off because they know what they are doing!). Over the past 5 years I have had two seats (both of them the Touratech "so called comfort "seats) done by them and they last and are super comfortable. Just my own personal experience.

Screens - a very personal thing - I run two screens, a short one for the summer and a touring screen for longer trips and winter with the Wunderlich Screen extender Wunderlich Ergo screen extension - tint - R1200GS/Adv LC, R1250GS, F700GS/800 Adventure and more (nippynormans.com) fitted, don't buy the cheap Chinese version it is too big! It is trial and error to find what suits you best.

  12. Just gave them a call. They'd do the job for 190 quids, which does not include the logo but I was really not into it in the first place anyway. I'll book a while you wait session to make sure seat's taylored to my morphology. It's not like am going to tour France at the moment anyway...

  13. Sound a lot to me, remaking with gel inserts and other foams on low seat cost me £75.00 . The aim was to make the very uncomfortable seat atop pitching me into the tank, keep the lowness and gain comfort. All 3 achieved. Have a look at www.elsemade.com chap is Alistair. I deal with many upholsterers over the years. 100s, and I am very happy with Elsemade. One man band but he cares.

  14. I run the Pikes Peak screen and Touratech comfort seat on mine, ridden it all over Europe and it’s been spot on.

  15. Took the bike for a spin. Jamie’s spacers are definitely helping. No buffeting at 70 (+-), clean air coming onto your visor. A lot of air noise but that’s to be expected I suppose.

  16. Took the 1260 for her (my?) maiden ride today.
    Very happy so far but:
    1) The seat... yes I'll need that reworked. At 6'3" I want to sit all the way back, but I kept sliding forward into the dip
I want it flatter and 10 to 15mm higher in the middle with a gripper material.
    2) I've got a dry squeak coming from the forks. Noticed it whilst braking at 5mph in car parks thought it was the brakes.
But when I got home and its on the side stand at rest, if I push down on the handle bars I can hear the squeak again. Like a dry rubbing noise. I'll need to get this checked.

I'll await some feedback from you guys after your seats been reworked and get mine done.

  17. Thats what I had done to mine, makes heaps of difference, can almost ride all day now.

  18. I bought the Ducabike comfort seat covers from Carbon Conquest in 2018 & had them fitted by Viking Seats near Brands Hatch for £80.00 while I waited. I was able to buy a used set of original rider & pillion seats from Protwins so still have my originals.
Much better seat profile for myself 78kg & 5’11 and less prone to sliding towards the tank. I can ride from Kent to Harrogate in comfort and after 8000 miles still looks as good as the day it was fitted.
    Cheers, Doug
