What Was The First Car You Owned And How Did You Rate It?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by El Toro, Feb 18, 2021.

  1. Vauxhall chevette with 76000 miles from 1977. It was 9 years old and a load of crap when you consider how good a 9 year old car is today.

Front wing rusted through after about 3 months. Blew a hole in a piston at 70mph after about 4 months.

luckily I had a mate who was a mechanic who fitted an engine I got for £30 for the price of a few beers.

apart from that, loved every minute of the freedom big lolz

  2. ‘78 MkII escort 1600 Ghia with vinyl roof (I knew how to impress the girls ;):joy:)
Pile of shit! Very unreliable due to the temperamental automatic choke, would flood at the slightest hint of throttle on start up. Had it for a year until I’d earnt my all important 30% NCB and then it was replaced by a Mk1 Astra GTE, (loved that rust bucket:heart:)

  3. I owned an Irmicsher Astra GTE, great car.

  4. Volkswagen Golf GLS 1500cc,, me the second owner with fifty / five? thousand miles on speedometer in bronze coachworks, bought when i was sixteen and paid for.It went like the clappers for it's hooligan driver, also had four doors so much more civilised when rearranging the cushions after hours.

  5. The first car was a Ford Anglia, I was 14 and we would thrash it around the fields and woods.
My first car on the road was an Austin A40 Westerner, the split boot model.
Both equally shit, but at the time they were great.

  7. I got stopped numerous times in mine a weekly event, I even took to carrying my documents to save the trip to the local Police station. :D

  8. It must have been an Astra GTE thing because I used to get stopped regularly in mine too.

  9. First car was an Austin Allegro . Cost £50 off of our elderly neighbour . It was great, had it a couple of years and it went straight through two MOT's and never let me down . Had great bouncy rear seats . I sold it to the future mother in law for £100, she had it about 6months then it was hit up the rear and written off .

  10. My first car was also a Triumph Herald, it had been hand painted in GPO yellow with a black roof. I only paid £30 for mine though. I then had another one (a blue 1260 with sunroof) and finally a red one which I wrecked on a telegraph pole.
I loved them all, but the 1260 was the best, easy to work on, character and those weird wheels that went onwards if you jacked it up.

  11. a 1971 Ford (Exploding) Pinto. Shit Brown with a Black stripe.
I drove it over 50,000 miles in the first 14 months I had it. I bought it a couple of months before I got married at 17 and moved out. I never left the state of NY and barely left LI except for camping upstate.
Lots and lots of service calls all day after a 50 mile commute one way to get to work.

  12. Ford Capri 1.6L, from a used car lot in Micham. Was a pile if sh*te.

  13. 1969 Mustang (351 GT), bought in Switzerland with my first LT pay back in 1995. At first, very scary and somewhat dangerous. 25 years later, it’s fully restored, better than new and smokin’ with a nice cam! Before that, drove mother’s peugeot 106 XT, a pretty fast little thing, even though I wouldn’t have said no to a 1.9 205 GTI...).

  17. 1974 MK1 Ford Escort 1300 Sport in diamond white. Bought in 1979. Drink driver hit me head on in 1980, I was 3rd party insurance and he was uninsured. Managed to get it repaired. Car then got stolen, chased by police, wrapped round a lamp post and written off. Got an insurance pay out.

  18. My first car was Ford Popular sit up and beg style UVF441, very dangerous in a cross wind, sold that and had a Ford 100E Van, GDX765, how's that for an anorak, had many many cars since then, just bought a Vauxhall Astra Mk1 1300 to use as a runaround.
But my best car is my present one, 1957 Chevrolet IMG_0188.JPG Bel Air.

  19. Lada Niva jeep.

I got it in 88. My Dad bought it tax free in Moscow, had it shipped to Helsinki and I drove it back from there to Scotland.

I had it for years, pimped it out and got into off roading; absolutely brilliant machine, it put many a bigger and much more expensive machine to shame when in the muck.

I have recenlty been trying to buy another fixer-upper but they are rare as hen's teeth.

  20. She was hit up the rear and written off, poor woman
