E10 Fuel From September

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by duke63, Feb 25, 2021.

  1. According to the Government website, E10 fuel will become the norm at UK fuel stations from September. E5 will only be available in the ‘Super’ grades. : unamused:: unamused:

  2. is this bad??

  3. One problem with E10 is it contains less energy than petrol, so E10 burns quicker than premium unleaded (95 and 98 octane).

  4. Also not good for plastic tanks on older bikes.

  5. Those of you with plastic tanks will need to use an additive unless you want them to start growing on you.

I have been using this stuff for ages in my classic bikes and more recently in my Ducati.

There is lots of stuff that sounds similar but they are not all the same. This IS the best and I have tried pretty much all there are out there.

Any dealer worth his salt will have it or can get it it - its not like a common additive, this stops any Ethanol damage dead. Dont buy the clones, they are pretty much just a fuel stabiliser in another bottle

A bottle will last for months, just drop a capful in the tank when the bike stands for more than a day or two.

  6. Would it not also be beneficial for steel tanks, reduce corrosion?

  7. I can't think of a time in probably the last 10+ years that I haven't used a premium fuel in any vehicle I've owned. There have been enough tests and demo's to prove that it's more than just a marketing spin. The switch to E10 to me is another reason for those that don't, to start using premium by default

  8. Absolutely yes. Just that ethanoic acid (from ethanol) rusts steel tanks, - it inflates/melts plastic tanks, fuel lines and other plastic components. Using this additive will also give you back the mpg you might otherwise lose on that shit E10 fuel. I helped in the development of this particular product and I know they were first to market and have been copied since. I get nothing whether anyone uses it or not - I buy mine. I do know it is 100% effective unlike the other stuff that claims to be so ;)

Incidentally 'Premium' will also contain ethanol - use this stuff with that too if you dont want issues. Like I said, unless I am on a fill and run out run, I always put this in my tanks - my corrosion damage stopped instantly when I did that. It was a nightmare before

  9. It maybe more of a problem when touring ....when we can! Especially to EU countries where premium E5 is not always on the menu. I have a 50 year old classic car so it will be a potential problem with fuel lines, rubber gaskets in pumps and filters. Not sure if it's a big problem for most of us?......

  10. True this, but possibly on a tour you'll have more storage, maybe sneak a bottle in a pannier for use when filling up. The bottles are pretty small, you could probably even get some small bottles as 'shots' as long as you don't get stopped and have to explain it!

I'll probably just use super where I can providing it's still E5, I have a panigale so shouldn't be so much of an issue as it's metal tank but I'll get some Motorex for winter anyway to be safe as I don't want a rusty tank, also I don't want the reduced efficiency and any additional heat if that's the case with higher ethanol

  11. If its not actually standing in a system, its less of a problem.
Ethanol is hygroscopic and absorbs water from air, it then undergoes a chemical reaction ( I have the formula if you want it) to produce ethanoic acid and Hydrogen.
Its the acid component that is corrosive.
If you fill up and drive to run the fuel through, you will likely see a reduction in MPG and performance as ethanol does not burn as cleanly as petrol, but its not as likely to harm your system as quickly as standing it up will.
That said, in a car, chuck a bottle of that Motorex stuff in the boot and add some whenever you fill up - all problems are solved then.
I get I sound enthusiastic, I was involved in the creation of this product to some extent as I deal with the Swiss factory that created it. It actually matters not to me whether anyone believes me or not, or even buys it or not - I do know this stuff very, very well though and in classic bikes it stopped all my previous corrosion issues by using it. I know it has been copied but nothing like as well
I am not on commission lol

  14. Does E10 cause problems to carbon fibre tanks; as it would a plastic one @HootOwl

  15. There's definitely legit reasoning behind 'super unleaded'. For the most part it's just cleaning additives etc. But on tuned motors and turbo cars it does actually make a difference.

There's also a fair bit of proof that super diesels are much kinder to DPF's and EGR's as well.

I couldn't run my Honda on normal fuel (high compression world supersport engine). My panigale actually developed a missfire at brands when I had to run a tank of texeco's finest through it.

Can't say I notice anything on the gsxr eitherway but I always generally run it and anything else on Super anyway.

  16. Erm, both of mine run on the cheap stuff. If I click the wrong button they get a treat but I cant tell any difference. (GS, Monster R) GS has around 30k now and most of that on E10
May be a problem for the plastic tank streetfighters. I dont even know what the tank is made or lined with on the GS but the tank would need to swell a significant amount to notice on one of these.

  17. I'm not sure if using premium fuel (SUL) in my Mutli makes that much, if any difference. However, in my 320i BMW, it makes a world of difference, not just in performance, but also mpg. I've never used or considered using any additives before though

  18. Think I better get hold of a steel or Ali one for the monster and get it painted up!

  19. My Mini Cooper s prefers V Power I have tried Tesco premium but it didn’t like it at all
Talk about sluggish I could walk faster :D
