1260 1260s Or Enduro?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by GG33, Feb 17, 2021.

  1. Really struggling to decide whether to get a 1260s or 1260 Enduro. It will be my first Ducati and don't think I will be disappointed with either, but hate the thought of buyers remorse. I Have ridden the 1260s but not the Enduro. Like the spoked wheels, more 'adventure' look of the Enduro (My last bike over 10 years ago was a BMW 1200GSA) I'm not tall at 5'9" but found I could almost flat foot the 1260s. Probably will hardly ever go off-road but something is pulling me toward the Enduro.
Is one or the other going to be more difficult/better come re-sale time?
    What do you think?

  2. I think in terms of resale the 1260s is probably a little easier to move on. That shouldn't really be factored into your buying decision unless you're one of these people who change bikes every year.

You need a test ride on an Enduro to decide having ridden the 1260s. I tried both, albeit a couple of years before buying a 1260s and at the time (2016) it was the earlier model 1200 DVTs. I preferred the road focus of the s. The Enduro gave me the feeling of a lot of bulk up ahead of me which I didn't like.

Finding an Enduro to ride might be a challenge, now the V4 is here I'm not sure dealers will have demo bikes and private sellers might be reluctant. Whilst there are a few new Enduros left at dealers they're no longer made. Probably the only option is to find a dealer with a decent used sample to try.

My friend and IAM observer has had a couple of Enduros and rates them highly stating that they're far superior to the 1260s... but what does he know :D Think he only changed recently, might have even been his third... Ducati Worcester might possible have his previous one as 2nd hand stock.

  3. I had a test ride on the 1200s Enduro and I liked it, I’m a similar height and found it ok. The seat is more comfortable than the standard 1260. The larger front wheel didn’t bother me but as was said above they didn’t sell as well and SH values may be lower when you come to sell.

The only thing that concerned me was the weight when you had a full tank of fuel, easy to drop it I would think?

  4. Seen several comments in other threads about 1200 Enduros. I think the 1260 is much more user friendly and I prob wouldn't fill it right up unless on tour.

  5. I've just bought a 1260S. I didn't consider the Enduro, not really my style and I know whilst touring I won't wonder far from the tarmac so no need for that feature. Yet I've been off roading on trail bikes around Wiltshire many times and love it, but that teaches you that super light bikes are the tool for the job, ask me, I've been pinned under one when I fell off !)
But if your heart pulls you that way, go for it. :upyeah:

BTW My other bike is a 2006 triumph Scrambler, styled into a desert sled. Purely for looks though

  6. I've had a 1200 DVT PP and now have a 1260 PP, I had a day long ride on a 1260 Enduro and it's a lovely bike. You're right when you say you won't be disappointed with either.

Unsurprisingly, the S/PP is more road focussed. Sharper handling and there's more connection with the front end. The Enduro is a 'softer' ride, less focus and I'd say easier to ride but less competent if you are making progress. The suspension on the Enduro is softer, but it's not GS levels. Plus it's a more upright riding position.

I'm surprised by some of the comments, I'm 6' 5" and I found the Enduro a big bike, not a problem for my legs (can't remember what setting the seat was on) but I'd say sub 6' could be a challenge.

  7. A huge reason I wouldn't sell my Enduro is the 30L fuel tank - I dislike having to stop for petrol all the time, and enjoy the 300+ mile range. I did Fort William back to Dorset (650 miles) with only one fuel stop last year. Seems like the new V4 is quite compromised in that aspect, which would annoy me massively.

It is tall - I'm 6'2" and dropped mine twice in the first six months, albeit one of those was me being stupidly optimistic about mine and the bike's capabilities on a very rough rocky trail. It's made me a better rider, and I learn to judge cambers and where to put my feet down. It's easy to ride at walking pace though, and very well balanced. The height shouldn't put you off; it's just a question of getting used to it.

  15. I used Alton in the past for spares, seem decent guys down there.

Bought mine Ducati Aylesbury, and like you had it delivered in the back of a very large van. Seems to be the new way of doing business now for dealers.

  16. Top blokes at Snell. I’m about 10 minutes up the road from you, and mine was delivered in their van last April.

  17. I moved from a 1200s to a 1260 Enduro.
I’m 6’ and an experienced rider so it fitted me well.
Like you I liked the look and felt it might have a bit more rugged finish to it.
However, once loaded for a camping trip and fully fuelled I found it way too top heavy.
After 1300 miles I traded it for a 1260d and find that way more manageable

  18. and despite the smaller tank a much improved range and mpg? ;)

  19. Just better for my needs, and I suspect most people’s but we’re all different

  20. Out of interest, what sort of range do you get? I'd definitely be interested in a more sporty version of what I have. I feel like my ideal bike would be a Pikes Peak with 30L tank.
