  1. From the Arai website

    7 years
Arai recommends replacing your helmet 7 years after date of manufacture and 5 years after date of purchase to maintain the maximum levels of protection.

  2. Read in a bike may a few years ago that the EPS liner (absorbing energy layer) loses 40% of its energy absorbing properties after 5 years. Even if kept in the basement/play dungeon!

  3. Mine get replaced when they start to smell
Bad and no amount of washing the liner seems to help for more than a few weeks.

That was usually about every 3-4 years but this was when I used to commute regularly.

  4. Personally, I feel it should be mandatory that a date of manufacture label/sticker be affixed to the helmet, In plain site, immediately obvious.
I’m fed up pulling liners out or away just so I can see how old a lid is.

I change mine at a max of 5 years but usually sooner.

No one likes a stinky helmet.!

  8. BSI for the material, manufacturer for the helmet warranty.

  9. Something else comes to mind, after a discussion with someone fairly high in insurance, who informed me, irrespective of condition, if a helmet user is involved in an incident whereby they sustain a head injury no matter how trivial, if said helmet is over the recommended manufacturers warranty, then the user has contributed to their own injury by going beyond the recommended lifespan. Whether at fault or not.
Apparently came from a European case which had widespread ramifications.

And as you all well know. insurance companies will use absolutely anything to reduce payouts!

Ps: one reason I keep a copy of my purchase receipt as proof of date.

  10. I have a bnwt xlite carbon I may be selling cheap. I've never even tried it on. I like my bell star too much and I've just bought another.
It's M/L iirc I'll check if your interested. Would be looking for £225

  11. Im a S so not going to be any good. Thanks though.
I’ve found a 803 uc for just under £300 from a reputable shop but for some reason it’s not being sold with a tinted visor ( they all come with clear & tinted) visor is £45. Elsewhere there’s the uc hot lap for £366 that comes with both visors. Mmm, is it a no brainier??

  12. Have you tried Helmet City by any chance. Whenever I've bought from these guys, they certainly seem to know their stuff and will always price match too. I currently run an X-Lite 803, not the carbon one, but the full tilt version (homologated) and I really rate it.

  13. Apologies, I'm talking rubbish here, its the 1004 that I've got, DOH!: unamused:

  14. +1 for Helmet City.

  15. Sportbike shop is the cheapest online. Helmet city is more expensive. Could ask for price match.

  16. Recommended Helmet City if you're needing fitting help. Otherwise, cheapest wins for sure!

  17. I've bought two lids from Helmet City and have been happy with the service on both occasions.

  18. Arai recommend 5yrs. They also say after 7yrs it falls below what they call safe. So I looked at mine. 03/13. Arse! Ive just bought a new lid. The Visorshop but Helmet City are good too.

  19. Best place to buy a helmet is at the shows, great discounts..... hang on, maybe not this year though!
