So it takes 22 complaints about inconsistent braking or extended braking distance or unexpected soft rear brake pedal and a report of one injury incident, allegedly caused by the loss of rear braking, over a period of 8 years, from a community of more than 34,000 motorcycles to trigger an OD investigation ? They must be busy. Andy
But the rear brakes are notoriously shite aren’t they. My Multi’s rear brake is still a problem. What possible cures can we list. I’ve tried the fancy high temperature brake fluid.
I can’t remember using it - lots of engine braking and leaning on the slipper clutch is as much rear braking power as I ever use - if I need to stop quickly the back end would be in the air anyway. I found that out the hard way when I hit neutral when expecting 2nd heading into Melbourne the last time I was at Donington - soon ended up panic braking when the release of the clutch didn’t provide the expected effect - apparently it was quite a nice stoppie!
Rear brake on the GS not great. Mostly because it hardly ever gets used. Tbh on big twins, if it wasnt there, I would not be too bothered.
Mine failed on my ST4 after 2 laps of Donnington last summer. Helpful technician from Ducati Nottingham flushed through with new Dot 5.1 brake fluid. Improved but still failed after a few laps of use. Kind of got used to relying on front brakes and engine braking. I just used it as an emergency brake.
