Petrol is at least 10% more expensive here. Add in diesel being more economic, trips to Brittany and the UK along with plenty other long journeys, will take my chances with dpf and egr problems. Also do a bit towing to transport a ride on tractor to local jobs. Hence the 4wd as some of the access roads are easy to get stuck on when wet. Any feedback on combining 4x4 with vw group dsg gearbox...am I really asking for trouble with that combo? Allroad Audi around 2018 just coming in to price range.
The other thing we do alot of is egr delete kits, blank it of and remap the vehicle you usually get 30-40 bhp more and a load more torque.
Last year petrol was 10% cheaper than diesel, funny now petrol cars are more popular it’s gone up in price.
Not sure what can be got away with here for egr delete kits and tuning. I need to investigate the control technique, suspect they are a bit hot on emissions. Love the Subaru outback. I am bit tight though and despite mentioning the Allroad, Audi servicing costs and value for money will be a driving factor. The Outback is probably out of range. Prices here are mental on new and nearly new. Octavia/Golf 4x4 estate in 2.0tdi form, Renault Kadjar 1.6/1.7/1.8 dci (Renault has a much better trim than the Nissan at more money here, garages everywhere for Renault, Ford Kuga 2.0 tdci ..all 4x4 were the size and type of thing I have been looking at. I need to be able to fold seats down and easily carry lawnmower, strimmer, chainsaw etc. Prefer a digital dash, really find the old style dials harder to read at a glance. Must have cruise control..must be 4x4 but retain some economy.
I have a VW T6. If the EGR flashes up, I just take it for a run on M25 for a few junctions and it clears. Simples. Its also 4WD. Was great in the snow but not taken it 'off road'. I also periodically use a cleaner additive. No big deal. As for adblue, mines must sip it like a miser as I've not had to add any for over a year. But COVID has restricted my mileage. I'm not an egr delete fan. When I walk to work you can smell those who have. Its something meant to keep emissions down to help the air quality.
I’ve got an A6, no problem with the add blue, only slightly irritating thing is it has a mileage countdown that comes on that starts off saying you’ve got 1500 miles of it left, you drive 20 miles and the countdown has dropped to 1300 and so it continues ! It’s not a problem once you know it does that but was a bit disconcerting the first time
My '17 Tiguan TDI has DSG, though its a 2WD. I love it, easy driving and reliable so far. Just had first DSG oil change. I did go for the 5 year extended warranty though as the level of tech on the SL gives me the hebie jeebies fearing failure of an expensive part. Having said that our Golf (1.6 petrol) was sold at 115,000 miles with, aside from front window clamps (kit was £36 a side), had nothing done other than routine servicing. Original exhaust, clutch etc.
Great value. Got the Dacia Dokker 1.5 dci, great “van” type car atm, very cheap to run, but looking at a bit more quality and comfort plus the 4wd.
I did 100k in a 1.9tdi highline passat. Great cars. If memory serves we had to have a noisy alternator bearing or something similar replaced. Otherwise nothing but servicing and tyres. 50 mpg 130bhp.
Be careful with many of the modern 4x4 kids run cars like Kadger. They often have very limited towing capacity. I couldn’t tow a twin wheeled box trailer with 2 bikes and bits in one, it was was over. My 520 was no problem
Tow weight and towing weight. Iirc the tow weight was more of a problem on these type of cars. But even things like rav 4 size can have issues: they are really a small/medium chassis and can’t pull much more than may 80kg tow (ie weight on the bar) and 650kg towing
A strange post for a Ducati forum but as its here I will add my bit. Avoid - just because of all the single use plastic waste created by this madness. Better emissions maybe but no one seems to care about the extra emissions creating the bloody plastic bottles!! Anyway, that's my rant over with!
Well, that is why it is in the lounge. Plastic bottle waste can be avoided if you use the pump available on many forecourts. Or buy one of the larger containers and re fill it next time you see an adlue pump.. If we (Ducati riders) cared to that degree we would have to think twice about motorcycles with high such consumables during their life time. Maybe add in crash helmet turnover, boots with plastic bits etc etc many of the motorcycles are less fuel efficient than the average diesel out there too. The Adblue just seems to be unavoidable with the later diesels. I have been researching hybrids, petrol, diesel etc for the last few weeks and have to say there does not seem to be much advantage with anything, as long the vehicle is reasonably fuel efficient.
Fair point but motorbikes never pretend to be environmentally friendly! What I don't like about ad blue is it pretends to be environmentally friendly - conveniently forgetting about the single use plastic bottles. A friend tells me that building sites are strewn with them, no pumps there unfortunately. There are very few pumps where I live and where they are they are for lorries with larger nozzles than will fit a smaller vehicle. Hopefully this will change.
Yes, we seem to be happy to have plastic bottles of all kinds, but only go after motorists. Water ffs, 500ml bottles. Crazy.
I have never been happy with plastic bottles but many people do. Plastic bottles of water - how mad is that when it free from the tap?
