This all started because I was honest. Lesson: with the DVLA is does not pay to be honest. Lying seems to be their preferred method of staying in touch - or not staying in touch as they do not want you to. A couple of days ago, I received a letter telling me to contact the assessment centre in Bristol and book an assessment. If I didn't within 30 days reply then they would bin my file and ban me for life. Today they write and tell me that I can't book an assessment as the centre is closed due to the pandemic prance. I had to double check that both letters came from the same place and with the same reference because any sane person would conclude that they don't know WTF they are doing. Unfortunately (for me) the correspondence indeed proves that they do not know what they are doing.

To be fair, he is ranting about the DVLA. Which, if one were want of a good rant, is as good a place to start as any.

Yes, a strange day. It is March and a beautiful warm day as I hobble down to the shops. There has been a run on sandwiches in the Coop. There was a break in last night at the One Stop/Post Office and a Window has been put in, so they are still shut. Crime comes to sleepy Berkeley. There are CCTV cameras everywhere and being a Post Office there would of been lots of alarms going. All to nick a tenner's worth of booze and some fags.
Some days you just want to stand in your garden and go Grr at the world. A tenner won't get you many fags. Nor booze. I think you need to revise your estimate. £10? We're you an insurance estimater in a previous life?
OK, maybe £300 at retail but £50 to sell when it has obviously been nicked. And that is if they cleared out the whole store which I doubt as alarms would have been going and I dunno if anyone lives above but I know the person who lives above next door. And on the other side there are houses where people would have been woken up. I doubt whether they would have had time to clear out the whole place.
